Good work Glen

How does aluminium rate as a heat deflector?

I need to save another 5KG off my car to make a difference on paper, i have a bare aluminium sheet here and was thinking about replacing the stock heat shield - anyone any idea what it weights?

I think anything that shines will reflect back some radiated heat, anyway the stock one is Black, so it will be better than that.

Doubt you'll win 5kg with that, in fact unless the alu is very thin I doubt you'll win anything

Edit, what he said ^ :)

This stuff is supposed to be Very good for reflecting heat, AJ, I think you could use it on it's own( but I wanted mine to look as tidy as I could) it is quite expensive for what it is though. I got it from Demon Tweeks.

If you catch me in a good mood I may cut a 10x20 inch piece off mine and send it to you AJ.

Give me a couple of weeks, AJ, I'll get some plywood to mount it on so it will be safe to ship it.

That stuff is very good for reflecting heat. I use to have some special stuff that was sandwiched with some other material and that stuff was amazing. We had it as me made some heat shields for lotus for some race cars years ago. The bit I used was what we had left over.

I need some advise....As the engine and gearbox are about to be split and parted forever :) there are a couple of bolt holes I need to helicoil(no it wasnt me who stripped them)They are the main bolts holding the engine gearbox together. One is just below the rocker cover on the steering rod side(although it doesnt make any difference they are all the same thread)The thread is metric fine its the diameter of the bolt I am not sure about.

I was confident in my ability to get the bolt size right until I bought some hose plugs, now im not too sure. The other is one of the engine mount bracket bolts(the one that goes through the bracket into the engine block)The bolts are the same diameter but im not sure about the thread.Hopefully they are the same and I can get away with just the one helicoil kit to do both.

As the engine will be completely removed and carefully hung up on the floor I might just aswell make a proper job of doing it,I know its unforgivable but I had made a temporary thread using aircraft grade locking wire, which was a fairly good stopgap untill I removed the engine again to fit the new gearbox. Now it seems I have run out of excuses and need to do the job right.

I am sure unclefester or S2000fun will be able to put me straight

Now the more serious bit...I need a clutch,Dixon was going to supply me with a Carbonetic twin plate,He went through the trouble of asking Carbonetic if they would give me a discount ...they said that they would if I put one sticker on each rear quarter of my car  I told them no.Dixon tried again and the offered a discount if I would put a sticker under the bonnet.Mmmm maybe,They forgot to tell Dixon that there had been a price increase in April and with the discount it was more expensive than Dixons advertised price.

Whilst this was going on Fernando was screaming at me that the twin plate Carbonetic wasnt up to the job.Dixon was assured by Carbonetic it was.

To cut a long story short Fernando has offered me a Competition Clutch Twin plate,Now I may be making a mistake but the engine fitted to my car was running more than 800 hp and over 550 ft lb TQ with a CC twin plate without problems. So with that kind of history I have got to go with it.
The price is not a deciding factor(considering what has already been spent) so rightly or wrongly thats what I am going for.

I would just like to thank Dixon for trying his best, as a matter of principle for the pricing I really didnt want to give my money to Carbonetic, but If that was what was needed I would have bought one.

I have just done some checking,it looks like I need 2 helicoil kits,a M12x1.25 and a M10x1.25 Mmmm does the pain(read expense) ever ease? ;)

You will forget all these problems first time she lights up :)
