Hello Paul,

I suspect UAE stands for United Arab Emirates. I did a search on the net about Greek people living abroad and want to come back to Greece again, what sort of cerficications they need to fill in but i could not find any info about your case. It is a little complicated cause you are British and you want to import cars with Emirates licence plates or British?

Maybe a lawyer from the forum can give us a help

thanks for the quick replies guys. United arab emirates cars, and british owner! Hoping the whole european countries thing will help, maybe not. i think in the UK i can bring it in if I am the official owner and have owned for set time, but am guessing you have different laws.

Thanks again

Of course, the news is that there are actually people who are thinking of moving to Greece.

Under different circumstances, you'd probably get an excemption or something. Or a medal of courage or something.

But Yiorgos has different ideas. So please prepare a check.

Just don't write an amount. Fiscal policy changes on a weekly basis so by the time you get here you'll probably have to sell the car to finance the taxes.

But it's sunny here, nice beaches, nice women (forget it, you're married), nice beaches, sunny, nice beaches, sunny...

Oh well...

First of all greetings to Dennis and good luck with you and your family moving to Greece.
If your company is covering house expenses etc, leaving you somehow exempted by nowadays Greece's insane taxation then you should be just fine!!
As lalakis already said we have a great climate here, lots of places to visit and see, islands the will knock your socks off and most importantly great food :D :D

Regarding the S2K i am pretty sure that by the time you ship the car over and start running around customs to get Greek license plates, you will have change your mind and think "wait, why didnt i just bought a Greek s2k in the first place?".

I dont know how much your car can sell for in the UAE but maybe you should check if it would be better to just sell your car and buy a used one from Greece (07-08-09 model if you can find one, www.car.gr is a good used car browser). Due to the heavy taxation here in Greece, >2.0L car owners are in for a big treat @ December so most of them are trying to sell them at rather cheap prices.

When you get to Greece it will be a pleasure to meet up in person. :)

Dear friend,

the law you are looking is no 2960/2001. Unfortunately for you, things are a little bit complicated. Greece, although a member of EU, has in effect laws about taxation (Greece calls them registration fees   ), regarding importing cars even though they are from EU countries (In fact for this policy, every year we pay fines to EU, but the income from the taxation is far bigger than the fines.....). At first, as a citizen of EU, you have the right to own a car from EU but for a certain amount of time (used to be 6 months, now is undefinied). But in your case things are more complicated bcs you own a car from a third country outside EU, so in your case, I suppose, they will impose you some registration fees.

But if you like my personal opinion you should be advised not only by a lawyer but also by a custom's agent or a professional agent that deals with custom's agents.

you guys are great, thanks for the welcome, and thanks Nabu for the link. My MY08 stocker will sell for around Euro14,000 here, so wonder how that compares?

If its going to be a pain in the butt to bring then I will have to buy one off an owner here. Will then try to convince the wife to get a DC5, as I am bored of the BMW.

Certainly looking forward to sunny beaches - we have lots of sun and sand here, but its too bloody hot. its supposed to be autumn and it was 95% humidity at 8am this morning! 40 degrees too!
