So, there seems there are at least a few of us that like photography. Lets setup a downtown photo walk.

There are a lot of cool places and many more I'm sure I don't know about yet. I'm actually about to go out and explore East Nashville with the guy who shot our wedding. So, I'll have more idea's soon

Lets get some idea's out there.

  • Day
  • Meeting Location(place with free parking would be ideal)
  • Time

Post up any other thoughts!

Posted ImageI did some cool shots on the west side by those old brick buildings, by 65. A photo session or walk sounds fun.

 thanks for the heads up on parking. We can meet there if need be. I guess it just depends on where we go too. The shot above is off 65 and I think Charlotte. But, there are lots of cool places all around.

I have more idea's as far as photo walks go. Like, a best photo competition/shoot off.

My thinking would be, take an area(fairly small, but could be large) and no one can go outside of said area(EX, any shot between 8th and 4th, between Broadway and I40, check out attached image fairly large area), then a day or two later after we have a little time to edit them, we all post what we think is our best photo and have a vote. Winner picks the next location/area to have the "shoot off".

I think it would be

a) Fun
b) Allow us to see the city/area through different angles, eyes
c) Another reason to get out and be active
d) I think it would allow each of us to pick up new techniques and photo styles.

Thoughts??

yea, I've still got the same camera too(XTi). I do have the canon "niffy fifty" 50mm, its cheap like, 70 bucks. Will break if you drop it, but it does well for the price.

I've only got two lenses, the 50mm and teh kit lens. I dont want to buy a lower budget lens, so I'm just waiting to buy something that is good.

well i like the lens I have, just need to add the 50mm with it and I think I would be set for as much as I actually use it.

Also, for the shoot off, we can do things like, only a shot on Belmont or Vandy's campus, just a shot on/from broadway...etc etc the list can go on for forever.

got ya. I dont mind the kit lens I have, but it would be nice to have a bit more reach and something to get some wide angle stuff.

we got you man!

Actually, I am still learning. I've learned what I know from trial and error, Decent amount of online reading and hanging out with Rachels friend Josh, who has run a studio and who shot our wedding. He shoots alot of film and is great. He has made learning how the camera actually works, very easy.

Shoot, shoot and shoot some more!!

I will get the first "shoot off" location figured out soon.

Probably isn't a huge deal, but to try and keep everyone on a semi level playing field, I wont post where it will be

I say we keep it location unknown till that day and whoever is the previous weeks winner, prints a map with the outline of the shoot off area. We should probably put some type of time limit on the shoot off too. 30 minutes, hour?

Would anyone want to do this on a weekly basis? I think it could be pretty fun.

I was actually thinking about doing a competition last night.. thats a great idea. Will we be allowed to tweet the photo's or must they be raw?

Also if not a specific area every time, maybe just a specific topic, like motion or lights.. strangers car.. :) etc..

I'd say basic stuff for sure is fine, but I'd say no to pasting other buildings, tree's etc to fill a blank spot in the photo.

But, Cropping, colors, sharpness, I think should be fair game. Each person has s different feel they like, so I saw we allow that to be shown.

Yea, it doesn't have to be a specific area, we can do a topic for sure!! That would be awesome and it would be cool to see everyones different perspective and view on said topic.
