"What tyre" threads crop up very regularly, and thus it can be difficult to find out about tyres, especially for new members.

Therefore, to make things easier for everybody, please add your votes for tyres you'd recommend - you can vote for more than one type of tyre if you wish. Please only vote for for tyres you've actually tried on your S2000.

Please use the Search "this topic" before posting about a particular tyre, the thread has been going for long enough now that opinions on most common tyres are available.


Comments are welcomed, but please try to avoid petty arguments. Opinions on tyres are subjective and will therefore vary.

Note on R888s - great on track, a bit too noisy and harsh ride quality for the road.

eSeM is right about the Asymmetrics...they're chuffin' marvellous.

I liked the GSD3s as well, although longevity was an issue.

RE050As aren't good enough in the wet IMO (not poor by any means, but not what I would expect), and don't provide enough grip for the relatively short life.

I agree but after 2 sets of these I'm now on Contisport 5p's and the conti's are even better IMO.

I'm running AD08's on the front at the moment and the are absolutely fantastic. I'm going to be ordering a pair for the rear this weekend

okay...all those years ago, I was running SO2's on my MY00... Fabulous to a point where they break away. I tried 4 new Avon ZZ3's and it was a disastrous choice for the S. They were relatively young to the market in 2004 the Avons, not suited to the car and felt sloppy, and not confidence inspiring. Maybe they are ok on the softer,later S's... But not the bad tempered early MY's.
On my 02, I have RE050a's... Fantastico!!

Had many sets of A048 on track, simply can't beat them.

RE050 MZ I do not like as a road or track tyre.

I prefer using semi slicks on the road too, they are ok in the wet if you avoid a lot of standing water. Wouldn't feel safe with the other half using them though.

I would recommend both the RE50A and Pirelli P-Zero is what I am using now due to shortage of the Bridgestones. The Pirelli's are very similar in grip, feel and, sidewall hardness and poise of the Bridgestones but have far superior grip in the wet. They are both great tyres though. Hopefully when the Pirelli's wear out Bridgestone will be making the RE50A again!

This is in 16" sizes btw.

PS For winter driving I use Kumho KW27 and KW17 in OEM sizes. Excellent tyre and got me through last winter with all the snow, ice, rain and adverse weather without any drama's at all. Absolutely bloody fantastic and well worth it.

I've go Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 17" on mine, I have a feeling that they have been superseded?

Anyway I would recommend them again, I have more confidence in them in wet / cold conditions than the O/E Bridgestones.
