I plan on removing and storing my soft top and just rocking the hardtop on the S for awhile. I know the soft top helps support the hardtop when it's on (at least it looks that way). My question is do I need to have, or make custom brackets to help support the hardtop? If anyone has done this or knows where I can get some made I would greatly appreciate your input, thanks

No it does not. The Hardtop is supported by the front two strikers and two brackets right behind the seats. It is completely independent of the soft top & it's frame.

The only problem you'll run into is that the rear hardtop brackets will only be attached by a couple bolts instead of all of them like it is now. The soft top has a plate that part of the bracket bolts to to secure it to the car. The hardtop doesn't weigh much and would probably be fine but you could also buy cr plates which are soft top plates without the top attached. There's a thread about it here.

Even better! Thank you Spa. The CR plates are only 120 plus shipping, I'll be ordering them tomorrow.I'll post pics of the removal when I'm finished. Should be starting next week.

You don't need the CR plates. You'll be able to use 2 of the 3 mounting bolts to hold down the brackets, which is more than enough. Try it out for yourself, before spending that extra money. That's what we all do/did (before the CR model was even available)

My rear catchers actually have 4 bolts and after removing the soft top I was able to use 3 of the 4 holes by putting the soft top motor covers back on. Then all I had to do was add a washer for the thickness of the frame plates and I was good to go. Been running it for months like this with no problems.
