You all are familar with the davidson county emissions. Im looking at buying a turbo s2000 and wondering if this will cause problems with the test. Im looking at buying a car from out of state and bringing it in TN. Its from VA so Im not sure what their testing is like. Can you guys give me some info on what I need to know before I buy it and have a ton of problems. Thanks

As long as it is OBD2 readable and has no check engine light you should be alright. Some members........have it registered out of state to avoid this.

lol, I just lived there for many many years.

I'm not too sure how strict they are here in regaurds to turbo's ect. As long as you dont have codes you should be ok.

What kind of engine management does it have?

That's true, if it has AEM EMS you can't pass, ask tanner. Some guys will temporarily un-turbo it and run a factory computer just to pass emissions, but that's a lot of work to do every year as required here.

This is such bad news. I had everything set up at the bank. Not sure if there are any options around this or not.

Know of anyone in an emissions free state that you can register it there and just renew online every year?

If you know someone that lives somewhere without emissions testing all you have to do is say you live there and you're good.

Yeah I do know someone out of county. But you dont have to show papers or anything that you live there? You can just say I live here at blah blah blah? Cause my DL address is in Nashville I figured they would look at that

Hmm, I know there are ways around it, you could always update your DL to said address and then register?

Sounds like Im gonna chalk it up as a loss. Do you know if anyone keeps the factory ECU with a turbo? I thought you could chip it then tune it. All this is very new to me so if I said that wrong Im sure you know what I meant

There maybe hope....maybe. Was looking at the emission test website under the FAQ. What do you think about this.

What about modified vehicles?

Kit cars: Vehicles manufactured as kit cars may receive an alternate type of inspection.

Reconstructed and homemade vehicles: These vehicles are inspected for emissions compliance using the standards and test procedures applicable for exhaust emission, functional emissions control devices, and visual inspection for each individual vehicle - based on the engine year of the engine installed in the vehicle.

Maybe since its modified they could just do a exhaust and visual test? Im diggin deep here lol

I owned Tanners car before him, you could convert the EMS to hondata, search for it on the forum and you will OBD2 compliant. I registered it at a cousins house so I wouldn't have to do the work. The county he lives in doesnt do testing.

I asked for just a "puff" test and they wouldn't pass it with just that. Although my emmission test did pass. But since the computers wouldn't talk they failed it.

Yea, Thats what I was thinking. Even though there are no codes, the ECU wont be responsive to their stuff

Stupid AEM...

The new haltech (2000 I think) is OBD2 compliant. Ask evans tuning.

Your gases at idle shouldn't been bad, it just comes down to if there is a port to get the codes from.
