I am totally frustrated with the lack of documentation that came with the PS3 or is available on line at Sony's web site. Furthermore, I picked up the F1 2011 game for the PS3 and played with it a bit last night. Today when I tried to start or resume a new race I am stuck in the garage and pressed EVERY BUTTON on the controller and can not get out of the garage with the status monitor on the deck? There is not enough documentation with the game to explain how to get out of this limbo I am in.

Does anyone have any idea how to get out of the garage and onto the grid? I am totally frustraded that this PS3 and it's games are NOT intuitive. :thumbdn: Or is it me? :crycry: I have been a PC user since the early 80's and find Apple products difficult to use as well. I am currently doing battle with I-Tunes since I had to bring my PC back to a out of the box condition since my Win 7 2012 attack and now I-Tunes wants to over write the 1600+ songs on my I-phone with the three songs that are samples on Windows 7. I have E-mailed I-Tunes support several days ago and have not gotten a response yet, as I type this. :thumbdn: :thumbdn:

Matt, Rick is a PS3 player. Google for help. He finds "cheats" and other info on line at time when he's been stuck.

:hello: Hi Matt. So, you figured out how to get out of the garage. Barbara told us in the Hawaii thread. :D Having fun?

Did you ever figure out iTunes? I'm in the same situation. I bought Windows7 to get rid of Vista on my PC. Lost my iTunes library. I read that I could load my iPod music back onto my PC iTunes library, gave it a try, and failed. I've already reloaded that F-ing library 3 times and don't want to go get all my CDs out again. Did you figure it out?

Posted Image Patty! I had the same problem, then found this solution: In iTunes (with your iPod connected), go to "File, Transfer Purchases from Patty's iPod", and it should copy all the music on your iPod to the iTunes library on your PC. It worked for me, so I hope it does for you. :fingerscrossed:

Gene, I got that to work but it only worked for one song, Pumped Up Kicks, the only song I purchased. All the rest of the songs on my iPod are copied from my CDs and it didn't work for them. I haven't given up yet.

Gene,

I just posted in Lainey's thread that I was told by one of the "shirts" at the Apple store that it would only transfer the purchased music from I-Tunes and that all of the songs from my CD collection would have to be ripped into I-tunes again. Did taking the "transfer purchases" option also export all of your music (including from CD's) from your I-Phone / I-Pod back into your music library in I-tunes? Please say YES and tell me that I have been misinformed by one of the "shirts" at the Apple Store? I contacted I-tunes support about a week ago and never got a response.

Matt/Patty, I may have misinformed you.:banghead: I will try it again on a different PC that does not have all the music loaded into iTunes. I'll report back later.

Edit: Well, I have to eat humble pie, I guess. I tried it on another PC and as Patty said, it would only transfer the songs purchased from iTunes, and completely ignored the ones that I had loaded from CD's. I'm sure there must be a work-around, but I don't know what it would be. Sorry I got your hopes up...

Second Edit: See next post! Posted Image

Posted Image Matt, Patty and anyone else who is interested in moving music from your iPod back to your iTunes library on your PC. I found this third party software which seems to do it all, and it's free to try: http://www.copytrans.net/ I will download it and see how it works and report back.

Also, some Google searching turned up this geeky site that lists several options for transferring music, including a listing of several third party vendors: http://www.ilounge.c...od-to-computer/ Lots of information there, but I skipped to the third party section after a few minutes on the first two pages. Posted Image

Edit: Just downloaded and installed the above app. It works great! (Although the trial version is limited to 100 songs.) I'm sure the other programs listed on the above site work just as well, but I can confirm that this one works as advertised. It costs $19.95 to purchase the full version.

Second Edit: I kept digging, and found this article that appears to explain how to do the same thing, and costs nothing! Of course, YMMV. Posted Image

I got an electric piano support, put a board on top and that is what I attached the wheel to. It works great.

Picture?

I went to a music store and bought an electric piano stand (height adjustable). Ikea has a short (about 3 feet long) shelf that is about 1-1/2 inches thick. I drilled holes in the shelf and bolted it to the top of the piano stand. The wheel and shifter attach to the shelf (The G 27 has clamps that can be used to hold it to a table or board) The pedal set sits on the carpet (it has grips so that it does not move around). I sit in an office chair (no arms)

The force feedback wheels (like the Logitech G27) do have quite a bit of force, so you need something stable or it will spin it around. I originally used a TV tray, but it spun it around.

With this setup, I can put the whole thing away and then drag it out when I want to play. I just leave the wheel and shifter attached to the stand.

I'll take a picture later today.

Nope. It's a back burner project. I don't really need to update my iPod right now.

The "Plant Pixie" gave me the nod to go for a G-Force wheel the other day. I went to Craig's list and found a local guy that was bundling a Logitech G Force wheel with pedals and the Gran Tourismo 5 game for $100. I met him today and the wheel setup looks like new condition (it still had the protective coating on the center hub).

I tried attaching the wheel to a TV meal table and it was awkward and the pedals where getting hung up on the cross bar of the TV Table but I have to state that it is PRETTY COOL. I knocked several seconds off of my lap times around the Montreal Circuit and I am now within eight seconds of the all time lap record that Rubens Barichello set back in 2004.

But, this setup is not going to work. The angle of the wheel is too high and the pedals are getting hung up on the cross bar of the bottom of the TV meal table.

Silver Shadow: I would really appreciate a picture of your set up so that I can duplicate it.

I am still learning the F1 2011 simulation but I am impressed with how realistic it is. I have decided to concentrate on one circuit to learn it in the practice mode. That is after being black flagged with the shock controller a few days ago at Monaco for causing a massive wreck at T1. Now that I have the wheel and pedals, once I can get it stable it should be awesome and I will be ready to move on to changing the transmission out of the automatic mode. The "simulation" is a good reminder just how busy an F1 driver is in the cockpit during a race. I looked up at one of the on screen messages and that caused me to crash in the hairpin at Montreal and loose thirteen places. Up until then I had only been passed by Schumi (In which there is NO shame in that).

I have both PS3 and Xbox. Personally, I like Xbox more. PS3 online is free, xbox costs money, but for some reason I like/more used to the controller for xbox and have always rather played Xbox instead of PS3. Reasons unknown. I think the PSx controllers are just too small for my hands and Xbox has always been more comfortable. And all my friends are on Xbox. But, if you're big on blu-ray and all that stuff (I'm not) you can watch those movies on PS3 but not Xbox.

One of the reasons that I chose the PS3 was for HD with Blue Ray. However, even though our TV does not have an HDMI input jack I was able to obtain an PS3 to Componett 3 cable. When I plugged in the five RCA connections into the Samsumg HD TV I got a message that the Componette 3 was connected, I still had a yellow jack the sixth one free, I got a message that this was an "unsupported mode" Should I plug the yellow RCA jack into the Video in (yellow) jack off to the side? I am getting totally frustrated with the lack of documentation that is provided with products these days. I guess if we had a six year old kid he/she could figure it out?

Sorry Matt but your not going to like the answer and it's not a PS3 documentation issue.
The High Definition Media Interface i.e. HDMI has a serial port to query the devices that it's connected to.
After it gets a response back that it is not a recorder but a display it will send the programming over hte link.
Component video does not have this capability and the Blu-ray player will not work in HD.

Truly annoying but that is part of the copy protection schemes put in place under Blu-ray licensing.

I tried it. I got my iPod music copied onto my desktop, off my iPod, alright. Those bastards have hidden files and these directions let you get to them, with all your music that is hidden. Trouble is, I can't get it into my iTunes library. It says I can just insert the new folder into library--Music but it's not working for me. :ponder: I'll try again later.

Time to get going so I can go ride the ElliptiGO. :tipwink: Thanks for the :stick: Gene.

After several maddening attempts to call MadCatz.com technical support over the last two days and being on hole for 52 minutes before the first call dropped and over 40 minutes when the second call dropped I tried again early today and could not get through. So I called Sony PS3 Support and she told me that this was NOT possible, so I returned the cable to Game Stop for a refund.

I then found a PS3 blog that states that one can go from the PS3 HDMI port to a conversion cable to DVI (for HD Video only). I found such a cable on www.monoprice.com
and did a live chat with their TS and he claimed that it will work for 1080i and that if I use the OEM Sony cable for the audio feed (only) that will work.

The easy solution would be to upgrade our Samsung DLP TV but being unemployed and not old enough for retirement benefits yet that is NOT in our budget. :crycry:

Yes, I have modified a TV table with a 24" 2X4 screwed to the bottom of one side to provide stability from the G Force wheel that was causing the table to actually move before.

Tonight, I drove the Canadian GP as Mark Webber and started in fifth on the grid and managed to finish in fifth place as well without crashing and I have brought my lap times down to within six seconds of Rubens Barrichello's lap record set back in 2004. So I am making progress with learning how the F1 2011 simulation works at the Montreal Circuit. Once I get this dialed in, I will start moving up in the progression of car set up and switching off the automatic transmission and make the change to the paddle shifters, etc.

It is a good reminder of just how busy an modern day F1 driver is in the cockpit with all of the buttons on those $20 K + steering wheels. There is a lot going on, in addition to driving around the circuit at maximum velocity.

I posted in the "Official PS3 Tread" on this site. I am still having problems with interfacing my PS3 to Component 3 to obtain 1080i resolution. It seems that I am caught in a loop about this issue.

I have finally taken a picture of my Logitech G27 setup. It really is nothing special.

Thank you.

I have gotten by with modifying a TV table by mounting a 24" 2 X 4 on the the far side of the table to provide some elevation as well as stability to the TV table, as the G Force wheel was causing the TV table to rotate beneath it. Some foam "shelf liner" underneath the pedals have provided some stability there to help prevent them from moving around.

I have gotten "brave" enough to enable the paddle shifters in the F1 2011 simulation (which I have to say is pretty realistic and cool) and after running lots of practice laps to learn the Montreal track I ran a race as Webber where I started in fifth and managed to finish in fifth and earn 10 points.

I have to state that I am impressed with how realistic the F1 2011 "game" is. While doing practice at Monaco, the exhaust note echoes through the tunnel and after crashing on the part of the circuit by the swimming pool I was in first gear and could actually hear the sea gulls chirping.

I have much more practice to go before I am ready for a "full race weekend".

Looks like great fun; I thought about doing a setup like that a few years back but never did.
