Default Am I being incredibly stupid? Civic hybrid as 4th car?

About me: 35, married, have a kid, own house, car nut, don't go out much and own my own business.
I have to drive 1000 miles a week because I own my own business.
I own a 2009 ctsv that is awesome and I get 14 mpg highway premium
I own a 2004 s2000 that is supercharged, coil overs, saner bar gets 22mpg and is slightly harsh ride.
2010 pilot that carries the kid and is the wife's daily.

I saw a 2008 civic hybrid that will get me 45 mpg using regular.
Monthly payments and insurance will cost me 400 a month
By my calculations I would save over 300 in gas.
So I would put less mileage on my nice cars but I would also spend less time in them.
Less maintenance also on the ctsv and s2k

Opinions?

do it, or get a slightly cheaper/used civic hybrid to make the cost equal the amount you are saving

Sounds like a good idea as long as the price on the civic is good. Have you driven the car? Since your going to be spending so much time in it you might make sure nothing bothers you about the ride/noise.

If all you're after is fuel economy, you can get a Prius for around 10-12 k now with low mileage.

Also if you're interested, my friend is getting rid of his CTS-V 2011 6 speed manual.

Taking on a 400$ payment to save 300$? And you end up driving a slow boring car?
Only reason I would do it is the whole concept of using less oil.

But from a financial stand point, I dont think the trade off is worth it. YMMV.
Dont forget added incidentals from owning a fourth car. Insurance, tags, etc

I'm not sure what percentage of miles you will be driving the Civic to save over $300 on gas, but ask yourself if you can commit long term to the Civic as much as you currently plan on using it. The fact that you drive 1000 miles per week, I can see the temptation and desire to adding an economical car to the fleet. If you will use it 90% or more of the time, then I'd say go for it. If not, then either scratch the idea, or look for a more affordable and older regular Civic that will still get 38-40mpg, and you can use perhaps 1/2 or more of the time to save on gas. Good luck!!

This. The economics alone make a clear counter-argument. How is spending an additional $100 a month on a brand new car saving anything? And the prospect of driving a Civic Hybrid daily certainly doesn't make a compelling quality of life argument.

Given the facts, I have to answer: "Incredibly stupid."

There are so many cars that split the difference economically if you buy used that the original query is just wrong-headed.

You'd be better off buying a $1200 1991 CRX HF..two seater, 50mpg and the tank is only ~9 gallons. Throw some good one piece coils and you'll get a nice riding. sportyish gas saver. Not to mention insurance will be all of $50 a month.

This or a 3k civic hx. If you wanna live on the wild side, I'd suggest a bike for the warmer months. All 5k or less. Wait, You drive 52k miles a year?

Today is Pearl Harbor Day, maybe we can figure out an American alternative to a Honda?

The Caddy has to be very expensive to drive, depreciate and maintain, gas, tires, oil add up, What do you expect the cost per mile to be in the Caddy versus a more economical car, my guess is you'll be surprised at where the break even is.
