Is it possible to get a decent aftermarket steering wheel and hub for around $200-300? I don't care much for brand names or for the 'quick release' version, but if I could get one within my budget then its even better. I was looking at the 2 below on eBay:

Quick Release Hub

NRG 320mm Steering Wheel

A few concerns:

I prefer 330mm, is 320mm above that much of a difference?
I prefer to have the steering wheel closer to me, is there an 'extended' hub I can get?
Is the resistor always included with the hub to prevent the SRS airbag light to come on?
Do I keep the cable reel or can I remove it?

Thanks!

Ray it's prob doable if you don't get a quick release version and you get the steering wheel used. You can get the thicker hubs that push the wheel closer to you. The works bell ones include the appropriate resistor and go over the reel but I think the NRG ones require removal of the reel. Works Bell is outside your budget though.

Actually all you really need is this hub plus a steering wheel and then figure out what resistor you need for the SRS light ( pretty sure it's on the board somewhere):

I am working with a company here in the USA in developing a D Shaped OEM replacement steering wheel which allows you to use all the OEM parts including airbag on the car without any modifications. It will basically be a clone of the VGS steering wheel. I don't know what the pricing will be until the prototype is sent back to me.

But I reckon you can get a nice setup consisting of a NRG hub release and a Momo Monte Carlo for a fair amount that will fit your budget.

320mm is fine. I actually prefer it as its not too big nor too small, its actually in a good comfort zone.

I have a 320 on mine, it's pretty nice except that it does block most of my tach from my sitting position. I may actually go back to a normal sized 350mm again.

I'm a few inches taller than you (5'11"), with OEM seat lowered 2", would that make it better or worse for me?

it might be the same. My 320mm wheel is also much fatter than the OEM wheel which further blocks the view.

I had that same exact 320mm on my other car.
It's really nice. NRG hubs are high quality.

I have a 350mm momo and it still blocks some of the cluster but it's not too bad.

I think the 320mm is a good size, but I prefer the 350mm since it doesn't take as many turns of the wheel from lock to lock.
As for the hub, usually hubs such as the works bell are longer, therefore putting the steering wheel closer to you. If you want to stick with the NRG hub, the easiest way to get the steering wheel closer to you is by getting a Nardi style of steering wheel with deep spokes. Those usually give about an inch or so of added length. Momo and sparco offer some deep spoke styles in both leather and suede at very affordable prices, if you want to look into that style.

The flat faced steering wheels will sit just like OEM with the NRG hub. I'm not sure if NRG offers a deep style steering wheel, but if they do, that's the easiest.

FWIW, I bought my MOMO steering wheel, NRG version 2.5 quick release, NRG hub, and NRG lock from Weksos Industries for $400 shipped. If I were you, I would check out their site for current steering wheel packages, and you might find yourself a very good deal as well.

^ it will be the same amount of turns lock to lock with an OEM wheel vs a smaller wheel i.e. 300mm.

Thanks for the headsup. They do have some nice deals there!

But don't you think putting a short hub + quick release + steering wheel will sit closer to me than OEM?

Radioshack sells them. I don't know what one you need for the S2K, though.

We carry a ton of steering wheels.

OP, is your $2-300 budget for the whole package or just the wheel? I carry OMP, Sparco, Nardi/Personal, MOMO, NRG and some others.

I posted this in another thread. Applicable if you have 06+.

Ok.. I wasn't able to defeat the SRS warning w/ the resistors that came w/ the Works Bell hub. So I bought 2.2ohm resistors from Radio Shack, cleared the SRS memory, & now no SRS light.

Here's how I placed the 2.2ohm resistor on the SRS connector.

Here's what came w/ the Works Bell hub.

I hope this helps!

Where did you get your resistor from, John? Is it the same as Clyde's? Mine is an '02.

the blue one that Clyde has is the one I have. It came with the WB package. That one is cool because u just have to plug the wire end to the airbag end. Then just
use electric tape to tape em together. If your air bag light is on you have to reset it first before you install the wheel. i dont think the resistor will take the air bag
light off like that.
