I get regular emails from S2KUK - I guess they are ending up in Spam folders for some.

Neil, of course the club is interested in things north of Manchester and Leeds - the club is national. If there are events in the area that members would like to see supported by the club, it would be more than happy to help. The notion of a club is all the members putting forward ideas and what they want, and being a club, helping together to achieve those things. It is up to members to decide and put forward ideas. The club has been asking for people to volunteer to co-ordinate in the north west, north east and Scotland for some time. If anyone can bring things to the club's attention then it'd be more than happy to help. So far no-one has, nor have there been any volunteers.

The club has had lots of support from Honda UK, in the form of a number of competitions to win BTCC tickets, getting Uehara San to Euromeet, Rockingham activity days, and supporting the club stand at Silverstone Classic with 3 lorries and 4 men to set up the marquee and pitch etc.

There is a news article and newsletter being compiled at the moment, as we're coming into meets season again, which will include asking for more volunteers in areas like this to help co-ordinate events and drum up support. If you or anyone else have something to contribute and some ideas, then ears are wide open awaiting the information.

:)

There are plenty of enthusiasts up here, but there are no trackdays, academy days, driver training, or shows that are supported by S2KUK. I brought this up last time, but nothing seems to have changed. Which is fine, BTW, but I just thoguht I'd add my thoughts to this thread.

If S2KUK were to start doing things in the Northern half of the British Isles I'd be happy to sign up again. And I have organised a lot in the past (as you know) but the interest up here seems to have waned completely now, with only 1 car interested in a meet the last time I tried to organise one (2010 I think). Maybe some kind of events would get the S2000 scene moving again up here?

We'd come Neil, I think last time it just clashed with a family event.

I pay the fees as a sentiment of thanks for the work put into the forum. I've owned forums myself for many years and so I understand the costs. Thirty or forty quid really isn't anything when I compare it to the cost of all elements associated with the car.

Yep, same here - the ability to sell isn't of any interest, but the broader resource is priceless. Happy to chip a bit in to maintain it, even if others don't. And I've saved hundreds in service/repair/silly buying decisions/good-cheap garage recommendations thanks to it.

That also ran the risk of chav spillage due to the famous car becoming affordable by the Clio brigade but alas, the mods stepped in and they ran to the hills! The reputation meter is an appalling thing and i expect it only helps mods "keep an eye" on supposed bad eggs. It's like a grain of acceptance for a few w&nkers on here.

I'm not sure you mean "alas" there?

This mod certainly paid no attention to the reputation thing, and I'm pretty sure none of the other UK mods did either. Another unwelcome aspect of Facebookisation.

I know what "alas" means! It's "down" or "get down" in finnish :tipwink:.

Btw. I'm member of both S2KUK and S2ki.com. There are only a few S2000's in Finland and that's why I'm lurking here :).

Crikey, this is all very civilised, I remember when a "Future Of" type thread would have it all kicking off

From my perspective I'm a paid up member of both; I'm not sure if I'll re subscribe here as I'm not on here that much anymore (the Thought Police at work have banned it, and it's where 90% of my posting was done), but I will be renewing my Owners Club membership. DIscounts aside, I've enjoyed a great day at Dunsfold with Free enrtry, a great weekend at the SIlverstone Classic and three really fun Car Limits days all at discounted rates. Yes I could do all this anyway but that's not the point.

But as ever, you pays your money and makes your choice

It no longer kicks off because the predictions about the death of the forum are all coming true - people who felt passionately about the subject have been proved right (again)

The facts are that there aren't enough of the cars to sustain a forum of its present size and the inbuilt destruction buttons (aka known as the F20C and S2000 specific diesel) will further reduce numbers

The increasingly affordable nature of the car changed the tone of the forum but numbers will eventually kill it

It has a few more years left in it yet but expect more of the same - more chavs, less ability to conduct a reasoned debate and days on end without anything interesting being posted

In the past you had to log in every day to keep up

Now the first page of each section is pretty unchanged for days at a time

The forum continues to provide a valuable resource for new owners and I'm sure the club discounts benefit many people too

I've lost count of how many of these navel-gazing threads I've seen in knocking on for 10 years on here! Though I didn't know that cthree had sold up now.

There has always been a slightly awkward fit between s2ki and S2KUK - that was unavoidable given that s2ki was US-based but acted as the unofficial home for S2KUK, and was where those of us how formed the original committee all met. I can see S2KUK has a larger online presence of its own now so perhaps the fit is a bit less awkward, but there is always going to be an overlap and scope for a question mark as to why two sets of subs should be paid.

Ultimately, you pay your money and take your choice. I don't visit here all that much these days so feel rather more detached it from than I used to. If you want to sell, you pay your s2ki subs - it's simple as that. For £10 a year, it seems to me you can't really go wrong with S2KUK - I assume Ian is still as passionate about it as he used to be when I was involved, and I know how much time he has sunk into it over the years. But if you take the view that you don't get £10 of value from it, just don't join (or re-sub).

PS It all used to be fields around here, you upstart whippersnappers! :vintage:

No time for the organisation sir.

Do you think the club might want to buy/contribute towards getting a spare rear window to Jack Smith in Swansea as a lot of forum members are booking his service for a replacement roof for £260. What he has for a lot of the MX5 guys is a spare window so he can pre make the roof and then keep the next one, rinse and repeat as the bonding takes 24-48hrs and so people are having to leave their cars there and get trains back.

I'd say there are also plenty in the Midlands who'd be as happy or happier to go North than South - I certainly would..

In the last couple of years, I've attended trackdays at Cadwell (and soon to be Oulton), as well as Anglesey, all of which are a long way north of me. Anglesey being 4 and half hours' drive.

Are there any Northern based events at which people would like an S2KUK presence? That would be the best place to start.

The club cannot dictate which events Honda might provide hospitality for. Perhaps S2KUK asking for invites to one of the northern BTCC events would be an idea?

Then again, if all the northerners are too busy/apathetic to attend, then it's hardly surprising nothing has taken off.

As ever, all it needs is someone to volunteer to organise things. All the regular southern-based events (Ricky Run, Herts Meet, Surrey Meet, MK Meet, Oxford Meet, Essex meets, Car Limits days) happen because someone gets off their arse to organise and run them. It's really very simple. The Midlands gang, and Irish owners seem to do pretty well at this sort of thing as well.

Someone needs to volunteer to organise something, and speak to Ian about getting it subsidised. It seems that S2KUK is getting it in the neck because more northerly members don't have the time or inclination to sort a meet out. My recent-ish Dales meets were always fairly well-received, though granted a few of the attendees came from hundreds of miles away, rather than just the local area. I would still be organising them if I still had an S, and maybe I could have included some sort of club funded event. Bit late for that now though.

I doubt Ian (who essentially is S2KUK) has the time to come up here for a recce and try to sort something out himself. The members need to contribute an idea and ask for funding. Things don't just happen. Without The Loon putting in the legwork, the subsidised airfield days wouldn't exist, for example.

:( Two kids, one 1948 house to renovate (and I mean renovate!) and a business to run, leaves me enough time to say 'hi' to the wife on an evening before heading to bed. Weekends... I have no idea WTF they are?

I do wish you were still doing the meets Scott (and Neil). Really do miss them and totally appreciated the time you put in

I've organised a meet up north before (Lakes) and so has Neil, both were good meets. I really enjoyed the 1st one more when there was just 4 cars, but I agree with Neil there never seems to be anything up North.

Tis grim up North :D

Always seems to fecking rain though on meets :(

Tell S2KUK what events you would like supported - so far I can't see any suggestions of what events the northern members want supported. If that information is put forward then things can be done. "The Club" IS the members, every member is part of the club. :)

For clarification (question?)

It appears to the recent novice that meets (Excepting Megameet) are organised by forum members and guests independently of S2KUK (though with the assistance of publicity outside the forum and the active attendance of S2KUK members) - whereas S2KUK takes the lead, or at least more actively facilitates, events (track/airfield days, festivals, etc)

Is that right?

If so, S2KUK would be pleased to hear of (say) a Newcastle-based JAE from a member who had put some research into it and would consider putting some beef into a presence? But would probably expect a forum dweller to take the initiative of picking up the Dales meet baton from Scott and running with it without S2KUK involvement other than spreading the word and turning up individually?

There is the Rising Sun car show in Lincoln. There is normally a Japanese auto and performance show at Thorseby Park near Mansfield. When I joined the club there was no regular west midlands meets. We now have a regular pub meet and drive and the potential for a monthly breakfast club meeting. It takes a bit of patience and time to organise but it is worth the effort.

I've always been confused by s2kuk not having it's own forum instead of using a sub-section of a global club?

Quite confusing to the newcomer with 2 seperate sites and subscriptions.
