I have just bought a rear lower brace bar and when I lifted the car there was already one there  .

Now I presume the OEM is pretty lightweight in comparison so happy to remove and replace but there is also some shielding attached to it which cannot be fastened to the aftermarket brace so I presume this is just removed and discarded?

Please see photo attached - any suggestions?

Thanks

That shield is there to protect the charcoal canister, but it's so flimsy I can't see it doing much protecting. Probably just there to stop stones hitting it.

If you don't have anyway of attaching it to the new rear brace then I'd just remove it.

Tie wrap the shield to the brace. Its bolted at the other end so will be secure.

Thanks - I would prefer to keep the shield and therefore I am tempted to drill the brace. I think it is solid so will just use some thinner bolts? Can see any risk for the brace failing (if it does I will send it back to Si ;) )

I'd tie wrap rather than drill....

Tie wraps don't rust.

If you run someone over, make sure they're definitely dead, to save embarrassment.

Charcoal canister is a waste of time anyway.

Remove the shield.

No it isn't - it's there to make that strange moo-ing sound when the car is cooling down on a hot day, with less then 1/2 tank of squirt...
