To the people saying R1 isnt a good starter bike:
Nothing is wrong with getting an R1 as a first bike. My 19 year old friend has had one since he was 17 and he just rides safely with full gear. He's NEVER been on the freeway, just not comfortable with the idea yet. He only uses it to go around town and to pick up chicks Hahah. You just have to be careful. He's never dropped it or had any dangerous mishaps. But if a person is addicted to speed and wants a first bike then the R1 isn't for them.

Your friend shouldn't own that R1. If he's too afraid of it to ride it on the highway, he's too afraid of it to know how to handle it properly. By the way, the highway is the safest place to ride a motorcycle.

very true. You probably disagree, but at least he wears his gear. Probably shouldnt have passengers though, especially inexperienced passengers, if he's not comfortable with the bike.

No cross streets, no driveways, no cars pulling away from a curb and cutting you off, traffic traveling in one direction. Boring...but safe.

Its all dependent on you as a person. I have an R1 and a boosted MR2 Spyder. My car took a back seat to my bike almost all last year. I drove boosted 240s, e30s, supras, etc. and nothing compared. I sadly wrecked my Mr2 Spyder and spent a month in the hospital on life support. I am still unable to drive or ride almost 6 months later. No matter how safe you are or how good of a driver you think you are, things can go bad in a heartbeat.

Bike. You won't need to turbo your S2000. It will ruin your sense of speed, nothing really feels fast anymore. Hell, you might get rid of the S2000 altogether because it's going to feel slooooow after you get back in it.

Starterbikes really depend on the rider. If you're a normally safe, sensible, and have already well developed defensive driving techniques - there's no reason to avoid a liter bike. You grow into the bike. Literbike saftey in two words : THROTTLE CONTROL. It's only more dangerous if you twist it more. The acceleration is not so much more agressive than a 600 as a 600, it's just got a meatier band. You're not any safer on a 600 IMO, they're both equally nuts. Hell, the 600's these days are so easy to ride- maybe they're actually more dangerous since you'll think you're superman sooner.

I disagree with the highways being safer. As speeds increase so does the severity of incidents, and so does the likelyhood of being able to avoid them. On the street - Yes more shit is likely going to happen, but it's usually at lower speeds where braking and manuevering are more viable - in addtition to lower speeds being less likely to maime you for life. I don't fart around on the highways unless they are empty at 3:00AM. I commute daily, and the highways are just as nuts if not more nuts than streets with traffic control devices.

Get a bike! I have an 07 Honda Cbr 600RR and the kinda speed I get on the bike cannot compare to a boosted S2k.

Highway I see it being safer than local traffic. Living in Seattle, people do not know how to drive in non highway traffic or just in general but the highway will leave you more room to adapt to any incoming idiots on the road. Be safe when riding is the most important thing!

No WAY! Turbo over bike any day. I LOVE my cbr but i would rather be in my boosted s2k any day over the bike. Not even a question for me.

I was faced with the same choice back in 2007 and I went with boosting the S (ex gf at the time had a problem with me getting a bike so that made the decision easy, even though I really wanted a bike). While having boost in the S was fun for a bit (inlinePRO kit), I felt like it ultimately ruined the car and I ended up putting it back to stock. The S is a great go kart for the turns, imo if you want more power it's better to go with a different car than boosting an S. Again, just my opinion and experience. After putting it back to stock I sold the car the following summer and purchased a bike, which I still have. As others have said, nothing compares to the feel you get from riding on 2 wheels. It is riskier and you always have to ride smart, wear your gear, and assume everyone is out to kill you... but it is a great experience that no car can replicate. Even if the car is faster, the feeling you get from cutting up the corners on a bike just can't be replicated in a car.

I say go bike, ride safe! Oh and if you do go boost, I vote supercharging over turbo... I think it's the right amount of power for the car.

wow seriously you think an R1 is ok for a first bike? you have never ridden a bike then.

a 600 isnt even a good 1st bike either. not sure what you think "handling it ok is" but there are few people that can truly master a 600 let alone 1000.

to the OP if you do decide to get a bike please make sure to wear your gear at all times.

riding can be an incredibly rewarding experience. personally id sell my S way before id consider selling my bike.

Bike, atleast later down the road when your car is down for the turbo project you can still have fun on the bike. My first bike was a 2003 GSXR1000 and I was 17. Got rid of it 2 years later and bought a 2005 GSXR750. I still own it today along with 2 turbo s2000's. The bike does spoil you and when you drive a car it feels slugish no matter how fast it is. Be safe and where your gear though. I say if its my time to go, its time to go.

i was in the same boat after owning 2 bikes. i bounced back and forth between the idea of boosting the s2k or getting another bike. i ended up getting another bike... and man, no regrets here :)

After tracking the bike and the s2k, I still currently prefer the S. That may or may not change in the future though, as I get faster on the bike. Who knows. The car is just funner imo.

The highway is still scary as anything else to me. The track feels the safest, lol.

Bikes has a different connection to the roads when being operated. It's something unique that cannot be replaced by any car. I had my bike 4 years before my s2k. Although I like my S2k, I still prefer my bike any day.

That's a tough one, if you turbo your s2k you'll have one baad s2k. But if you get a bike! that's just a different story, two toys instead of one! If you have a need for speed, just hop on that r1 and let it rip! (not dying of course)

I had 3 bikes so far, a 1996 ninja 250,2000 CBR F4i, and a 2005 zx6r. I sold them all during past 4 years, bought a 2003 jeep, a 2004 toyota celica GT,and now my beloved 2000 s2k. By far the s2k is the best devestment i have ever made! Wouldnt mind having a bike and an s2k though. If only money let me.. I had plans to make a white/red/black cbr this summer to match my s2k but its just to expensive. It was either a Greddy Ti-c exhaust, and headers, a bike or 3000 in my pocket lol i picked the money.. :(
