i need to change transmission oild and want to use something better.

my primary useage of the car is quite agressive and local climate is quite hot - similar to south California.

i had very good expirience with Redline MT90 on Miatas.

so just wanted to make sure that MT90 is for S2000.

Honda uses 10w-30 in the tranny

Honda MTF is the best fluid time and time again

Fresh mtf changed regularly will out do any fluid out there.

You will get a lot of mixed reviews on gear oil. Each transmission is going to react just a little different. I don't use MTF because it shears thin in just a couple thousand miles and gets EXTREMELY notchy. I've found that my transmission works well with GM Syncromesh. I've never used Redline or Amsoil but there are a few peeps here on the forum that have nothing but praise for them. I say try it, and if you don't like it, try something else.

I started using MT-90 when I lived in Texas and found that hard running in the heat often resulted in 1-2 grind until the box cooled down. It seemed to me that MT-90 helped somewhat (I tried others but felt they were less effective in the heat). I continue to use it now in a cooler clime and find it still works great except for being a little stiff on very cold mornings.

I've used mt90 in all of my s2ks for track duty and it's always held up fairly well and I'd venture to say the temps we see out here in vegas are probably similar to what you are seeing :)

Based on what? I've been happier with Amsoil's MTF. Always qualify what you mean when you say "best".

No they don't. 10W-30 or 10W-40 can be used as a temporary replacement.

thx a lot for the feeback.
Amsoil and GM are not available locally.
Motul is - but it's very exepnsive here (not that it would've stoped me) and i really didn't like it in my former Miata.

just wanted to make sure that MT90's specs are compatible with S2k gear.

good to hear that it proved ot be good for some of you.

just to update - i've put MT90.

during cold weather startup (10 celcius) the gear is very notchy.
downshift to 1st or 2nd during fist 10km is difficult.
just do double clutch with throttle blip and it works fine.

after heat up the feel is very good and very smooth.
shifting quality remains consistent during hard drive at mountains.

the bottom line - i like it.

I've used both own and mt90 and fin that the mt90 is very notchy. I switched back to oem and it holds up fine. I track the car often as well

If you're not tracking exclusively, you can mix MTL and MT90 for a slightly thinner (less notchy in the morning) shifts. I used to run 1 qt MTL and the remainder MT90 until my local redline closed down. I run straight MT90 and i hate the notchyness.

Redline MTL might be closer to a match with honda mtf. I believe the viscocity on Redline mtl was just slightly thicker.

no - MT90 is thicker.

this why it's often chosen for high climtae or/and heavy usage.

So if I ran MTL straight it would be generally closer to the honda MTF? Damn, I want some MTL again. I hope my local NAPA stocks them again...
