Wow, that looked like too much fun! Good passes, although you seemed to have done a little better last time. Too bad about the broken axle. Did you get the car towed back to the shop?

Yeah I was short shifting 3-4 to try and get the mph up. Normally I have to shift to fourth right as I cross the lights. I think i'm gonna raise the limiter up next time. If I can stay in third It will help tremendously. I probably lose half a second every time I have to shift.

That would kill the time and the clutch. In order not to bog it you would have to slip the clutch terribly. If I started in second you could beat me easily. That, and my clutch would last about 2 passes before it desintigrated. Unfortunately these cars were simply not designed to handle the abuses that drag racing puts on the driveline, couple that with 2.5 times more power and compromises simply must be made for the stock components to survive. I've pretty much reached the limit of what it will do without changing the rear end and trans, which is something i'm not going to do. I'm not gonna stop drag racing the car though, i'm just gonna be happy with high 7/low 8 numbers and take it a little easier on the launches from now on. I think my goal of a 7.60 may be unatainable without some very expensive modifications which i'm just not willing to do.

I ran nitrous for years on my old cobra. It is usually not very expensive and is rather easy to install. I would suggest a zex kit as there usually the simplest to install. And also your gonna need to invest in a wideband guage so you can tune it properly. Setup properly it will last for years, set up poorly it will melt your pistons very quickly. Check the for sale forums as there's usually a few used kits for sale. I actually have a partial kit with several sets of brackets left over from my mustang. Its a dry spray setup though. You should be able to put together a nice setup for less than 500 bucks though. With anything more than a 50 shot your gonna start to kill the stock clutch pretty quickly. Its simple to change the hp levels, so you can move it up or down depending on how it reacts. Find yourself a kit and a wideband guage, and hit me up. Can easily install it in a few hours.

Hey buddy, why are you selling the drag tires? You're not drag racing the S anymore?

Yes i'm still gonna hit the strip. The drag radials are awesome, but I spent years drag racing other cars and I don't want to go down that road with again with the S. I took them off and got some NT01's mounted up so I can hit the mountains and hopefully some HPDE's later in the summer. As fun as the strip is, it will quickly destroy the driveline components of our cars without some seriously expensive mods. Besides I enjoy the curves a lot more, theres just something about a good mountain drive that can't be beat. I still love the dragstrip, but i've been there done that. Its time for something new. I'm gonna be stripping out some interior and building a roll cage soon. I'm hoping the tires sell, so I can get some chromoly tubing and a new splitter on the way.

Cool man, sounds like a smart decission. I know our cars can be pretty quick, but the drag strip will slowly take years of life off our precious roadsters. I agree with you, the mountains are a lot more fun. I definitely miss my S and I'm hoping a few years from now I can pick another one up as a 3rd car :vtec:
