MY04 OEM Wheels on an MY03 Car How do they look with the older bumpers? Can anyone show me?

Hey folks,

I've scoured the Gallery trying to find my shape car (MY03) with the MY04+ twin-spoke OEM alloys (often referred to as AP2 V1's - even though we dont have AP2's in the UK ) to see how they look, but I've not been very successful!

From the offset I've not been too happy with how the 16" alloys appear a bit too small for the car and its arches, so always planned on simply getting the OEM 17's, but now I'm not sure whether the alloys would look too modern for the more square MY00 - MY03 bumpers?

Could any one show me some photos of AP2 V1's on and AP1?

Also, I presume its a dead easy straight swap over if I decide to go for it?

Cheers folks,
Rhauri

Have a look through the cars for sale on here - lots of pics of cars with that setup, and yes, it's a straight swap.

You'll be told shortly that there is no UK AP2 (only US and JDM). All the cars sold in Europe are AP1's. Ok, now I told it . I'll edit this message shortly and add a couple of photos of my old car with 17" v1 wheels. Edit, as LG told there are a couple of pictures on cars for sale / sold list; for example Gemma's car.

Here's one pic. More on request from different angles. I can PM you a link if you want.Posted Image

Straight swap, look good and work well. Tyre circumferance almost identical to 16" when compared in OEM sizes; the trade off is less comfort (harsher ride) for more precise feel (IMO). You'll pay a bit more for tyres as well. If you do it, worth hanging on to the 16" wheels for winter crud and/or winter tyres, if you can.

Don't forget to tell your insurer; even though it's S2000 OEM equipment it's a change to standard for the model year and there is a penalty. And, hilareously, in my case one outright refusal to cover because of the later wheels.

And they look even better in black. The very ones in the pic (now black) are on the FS board. (Not me selling them btw)

I know, hehe :D

If you could PM me a link, K3Nguru, that would be fantastic - thanks.

They do look good actually don't they, and I've spotted the black ones on the FS section as well as the silver refurbed set. I think the black ones would look amazing if I had the black windscreen surround of the MY00/01 cars, but mines colour-coded MY02+ so think I'd prefer silver... what are everyone else's thoughts on that one? My car is Silverstone Silver by the way, as per the sig.

Good point on the insurance note; I'll check with my underwriter before I commit to buy for sure.

Thanks for the super quick responses folks

I think all styles of the 17" OEM wheels work well whether its pre or post 04 car.

Here are a couple of my car with MY06 wheels to give you an idea and keep your options open depending on what you see coming up for sale. I prefered the MY04/05 wheels when I had my first S but actually really liked the look of the MY06 style ones when buying my second S.

Amazing, thanks Floppy - lovely looking car.

I presume the OEM splitter and side strakes (is that what people call them?) are hard to get hold of too?

I personally think black wheels on the silverstone look groovy (That's what us old people say instead of sik, book, wikkid or whatever term yoof's use these days)

That's why I went dark.

The front lip is easy enough to get hold of. PM Whaninoz as he knows of a good supplier that sells them at a good price and as good as OEM fit. In terms of the strikes, daylight robbery is the term that comes to mind! The last set Si at Hendy Performancevhad for sale were going for £385! Thankfully mine came with them! Thanks for the compliment on the car by the way...it looks a little different now though

My XD9's are black at the moment, decided it was more practical than white for the winter and I have to say the black on Silverstone does look really good!

Sharing what? Supplier of the front lip or my car with black wheels? I don't know who supplies the front lip but I think Whaninoz imports them from somewhere...I can find a pic of the black XD9's if thats what you're asking for though?

 I wish I'd had the time to get it into the calendar competition but I needed to edit it and make it higher res etc and work was just too manic at the time. I'll definitely aim to get it on there next year though ;)

Thanks for the info on the splitter; think I'll send Whaninoz a PM to get an idea on price.

Thanks again :)

I haven't done any decent ones as the weather has been so bad the car has been filthy so these are the only ones I have at the moment.

 Well now that the winter is nearly over I'm trying to decide what colour to do them next...I want to give a few colours a go and then decide on a final one to powdercoat them with. I used Plastikote for the matt/satin black finish and its held up well over the winter! Can't get the bloody stuff off now though, which I was led to believe was possible on the US forums

OP - sorry for taking this a bit off topic.

That depends on the size you buy, they can be bought in a near to OEM size not needing any work..

They're not cheap though :(

As WinFreak has said, you can get them in a sensible fitment...not that mine are

You'd be better off looking at the Work Emotion 11R now though as the XD9's are very limited in finish and size as the wheel has been around for quite some time wheras the 11R is less than 12 months old and available in a lot more fitments.

XD9 Wheel Sizes

11R Wheel Sizes

...actually looking at those, none are particularly sensible! A lot of it will depend on the look you want from the wheels too so the more dish then the wider the wheels need to be with a lower offset. Mine are 8J+35 front and 9J+38 rear...both of which needed significant arch rolling and modification to fit without rubbing.

I was lucky enough to find mine second hand on Pistonheads but imported brand new from Evasive etc. then you're looking at about £1800 without tyres after import duty and VAT!
