Default Tomorrow I am driving to Afan in Wales

Hi all,

as the title says, i'm going to Afan in Wales to go mountain biking for the weekend, and i thought, despite the fact that my mates are driving too and there is a space in that car, i should really take the Girl for a thrash round the valleys!

The only catch being that i don't know the area at all and from a look at maps, the M4 goes straight there.... if its going to be the most boring drive in the world i might as well not bother!

We leave tomorrow (friday) lunch time from south london - what do people reckon? is there a fun route to be had or should i save myself the (extortionate) petrol costs?

Answers on a post card.

M4. I've tried going on nice roads from the South East back to Bristol but they end up taking significantly longer due to lorries. Save your petrol for when you get to Wales.

The A4 between Newbury and Chippenham is a nice diversion from the M4, usually quiet-ish too.

After Bristol take the M48 to across the old Severn Bridge. Come off the motorway immediately after the bridge at Chepstow then take the back roads to Raglan (via Devauden and Llanishen). Join the A40 to Abergavenny, then A465 Heads of the Valleys all the way to Neath. Will add about 45 mins to your journey but includes great scenery via a mixture of country lanes, fast A road and dual carriageway.

Exactly the kind of info i was after! great stuff, cheers!

Thanks all for your input! The unnecessary drive just became necessary again!

Now lets just pray it doesn't get too wet or icy...
