GPW AP2 Type-S Build
Hello, S2KI This is my build thread for my 2006 Honda S2000. A beautiful Grand Prix White with black interior, it has brought me thrilling moments and a great community to be in.
I've been a fan of Honda automobiles for as long as I can remember. Reliability, VTEC, and sweet styling has always been important for me in choosing a sportscar. I could have looked at Nissans, Toyotas, and other makes, but this car has the perfect combination of speed, looks, and useability at this stage of my life. I had two civics before it, and while those were fun and reliable, it was nothing like the S2000. Picked this up in Oct. 2011, from a very well meaning owner who made his own jump to a sweet Berlina Black 2002 Acura NSX. I drove up to Sacramento to get this GPW, smiling all the way back home to the Bay Area. Beginning at 61680 miles on the odometer, it would see many track days (Laguna Seca and Thunderhill), numerous mountain runs, and lots of car meets.
Here it is the day I got it. All stock with only the side markers changed out to the clear ones
Here it is the night I picked it up. The previous owner also gave me a fresh set of AP2 V2 wheels, changed out the windshield, and differential fluid change. Very nice of him! I remember the first time I hit VTEC in this thing, and I was amazed! Definitely far more rocking than the SOHC VTEC I had in the Civic EX.
Just having it stock was excellent...but soon I would fall victim to the modding bug. My plan is to keep it like OEM, avoiding replica parts as much as possible. If only I knew it would eventually start looking like a CR...first I went with factory options such as the AP2 front lip and the side strakes.
Some of the first mods I did was interior stuff, such as a custom elbow pad, shift boot, Moddicition Anvil 2 shift knob, and Clazzio seat covers in black with red stitching. The CR radio door, carbon-fiber wrapped center console, and custom LED lighting would eventually find its way into the car.
Installed the K&N intake, which gave the car a nice improvement in throttle response. Paired with the UK exhaust mod later on, this would make the car sound real nice on fly-bys.
A few shots of my car in action at Laguna Seca. My first track day ever, it was great to finally cut loose on a track, no limits! The corkscrew was fun to experience, and I hope to come back to this track with the upgraded goodies I have now. I managed a 1:55 here.

A few summer pics......................
Eventually I would tire of the side strakes, as it constantly got chipped away of its paint due to plenty of mountain driving. And when I got the CR wing...I knew the front AP2 lip would have to go as well. The time and effort to install all the trunk reinforcement and cushions was long and meticulous. The thread to that odyssey is here:

My car prepped at Thunderhill. Great track to run, I managed a best time of 2:16. My brake pads were cooked after this track day. A lot more hard braking from high speed on this course. This was my last track run before I switched over to the CR suspension and sway bars.

Found this pristine set of CR shocks, springs and sway bars with less than 100 miles on them on craigslist. It was time to get the car ever closer to CR-spec.
Getting the CR sway bars and suspension definitely was a noticeable improvement, despite having the same stock height. Less body roll, more stability in bumper corners, and a more confident driving feel. Ride quality is still good, no compromise in comfort on long drives either.
It's looking great, but without the CR wheels and front lip, it looks a bit off. I went ahead and got the CR lip, slowly getting to where I want it to be.
Finally I got the CR wheels from a member here on S2KI. A bit sad considering it came from a GPW CR that was totaled. Only 3 of the wheels were taken, the last one was destroyed and I had to order one straight from Honda. I still came out decent on the price, as the only local sets of CR wheels in the Bay Area were too high for my taste. The finish on them is alright, but I will eventually get them fixed up at a wheel shop at some point in the future.
Thanks for looking

Yeah, but since I often track and mountain cruise a lot, with many others stating that the CR front lip does indeed have an effect on downforce, I'll play it safe and use all the hardware to bolt it on correctly. 8 holes....I can't go back to stock after this!
