  10. November 23 – Chuckwalla (CCW)

In this series, drivers compete in one of five classes based upon modifications, which are scored on a point system. The novice class is designed for newcomers, who will be assigned an instructor for the day to provide guidance and support. The stock class is geared towards newcomers with completely stock S2000s and those who wish to keep costs down. The street class is meant to allow moderate modifications to a primarily street-driven S2000, as well as S2000 CRs. The modified and super modified classes represent the S2000s with the most modifications, and thus scored in the two highest classes.

Prizes are awarded at the twelve individual events. Year-end prizewinners need to have participated in at least six events, and the best out of twelve events will count towards final championship points.

Event #3: Saturday March 22, 2014 – Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, Desert Center, CA

2014 Megan Racing S2K Challenge Series

The third round of the 2014 Megan Racing S2K Challenge was held at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in Desert Center, California. Twelve S2000 drivers came to challenge themselves and each other at California’s newest track, a 2.68-mile course comprised of seventeen sweeping, blind, and banked turns. While daytime temps would peak in the mid-80s, cool morning temps yielded many of the day’s fastest laps.

The super modified class was packed, with six competitors including David Lara (2:03.193), Mike Tsay (2:03.832), and Walter Chen (2:05.824).

Dylan Huig, also in super mod, broke the 2:00 barrier with a blistering 1:59.972 in Red 2 all while sporting three new intake holes in the front of his NF Red fascia.

Dustin Dessero also came out hot, running his FTD in lap 2 of Red 2 with a 1:59.716, edging out Dylan for second place. Dustin’s day was cut short when he slid sideways over the sharp rumble strip exiting turn 3, snapping his left rear knuckle.

Running the pace-setting-FTD for all S2Ks was Chris Elders. Chris ran a 1:58.971 in Red 2 and made it look easy by churning out 2:00 flats all day, even as the cool temps faded.

SUPER MODIFIED CLASS FINISHING:
1st Place – Chris Elders 1:58.971
2nd Place – Dustin Dessero 1:59.716
3rd Place – Dylan Huig 1:59.972

Congrats super modified class drivers!

The modified class was full of new competitors this year with three competing at the third event. The modified drivers were new to Chuckwalla and took a few sessions to settle into the track. All three competitors set their fastest times in the fourth session, late in the day.

MODIFIED CLASS FINISHING:
1st Place – Fabian Lacey 2:05.007
2nd Place – Yen-Wei Liu 2:06.414
3rd Place – Kevin Cao 2:07.406

Congratulations modified class drivers!

The street class saw the return of two veteran competitors, Fernando Muga and Albert Castro. Fernando was trying out a new suspension as well as learning the track and ran a 2:13.198 in Black 3 for 2nd place. Albert, returning from a long hiatus, ran a 2:08.757 in Purple 3 for 1st place.

STREET CLASS FINISHING:
1st Place – Albert Castro. 2:08.476
2nd Place – Fernando Muga 2:13.198
