After a long... long... think over subwoofers for the S, and after hearing a few systems this is what i intend to go for:
Ive decided not to go for a 12" or 10" in the trunk. The trunk area of the S is so well sealed off that most of the bass just stays there! All you hear in the cabin is the rattling of all the panels while the bass is trying to get out. So the answer ,i hope, is 2 'infinte baffle' or 'free air' (no box required) 8" subs/woofers that fit directly behind the each passangers seat back panel. Customization is required to get them in but I think the final result will be pumping! The added benefit is that they are shallow so the panel wont be outrageously large and that all the trunk area is still free for anything else.... like amplifiers! :D These subs are not really subs (more like mid bass) but the S has such a small cabin that the cabin-gain (bass re-enforcement effect of closed areas) is so good that they should sound bigger then they are... at least thats what happened with my 6.5" in the doors! Anyway here is what Im going for - Kicker's SSMB8: Model SSMB8 Diameter(IN., CM) 8, 20.3 Impedance (OHMS) 4 Max Amplifier Power (WATTS PEAK) 350 Max Amplifier Power (WATTS RMS) 175 Sensitivity (dB 1W/1M) 89 Frequency Response (Hz) 30-500 Mounting Cutout (IN., CM) 7-1/4, 18.4 Mounting Depth (IN., CM) 2-1/4, 5.8 |
