Timing Chain tensioner

Hey guys I need advice. I sold my 2001 S2000 and picked up an 2008 S2000. The first week the TCT went bad. No big deal. I could not get a Billman because he was out of stock for several months. I got a TCT off of the internet and installed it. It was fixed. My life was in harmony. Two weeks ago I started to hear faint noise for the TCT. (approximately 4000 miles ago) This is sort of pissing me off. I contacted Billman 250 again. I am waiting for his reply. My question is this, Is there something else possibly going on to cause such a quick failure? I think I have read everyone's opinion on line. I am using the correct oil. ect. I rarely even abuse the car. What are yall's thoughts? I appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.

If I'm not mistaken, it was a design flaw. I remember reading on this forum you can fix it yourself or buy a Billman. I'll have to search for the thread though.

Was it a brand new TCT? I would keep trying to get with Billman...also reach out to Jordan as he is an authorized dealer for Billman on the TCT and might have one available for purchase. I don't know of anything in particular that sets the TCT off other than the worm gear itself getting worn but who knows. If you still have to wait, get an OEM one and make sure you install it correctly (while simple to install, mis-installation can cause a lot of damage). An OEM one should last a good long bit before needing to be replaced again.

I had a noisy TCT in my AP1. Do you have access to a media blasting cabinet? I sand blasted the worm gear in an old TCT that I got for free from someone who was about to discard it, and it worked great and lasted trouble-free for as long as I had the car.

Here is what has happened so far. I changed the oil. Same oil, same fluid level. The faint TCT noise has completely disappeared. I am glad this has happened, but WTF. It sure is stressful. I never had an issue on my AP1. But I changed the oil every 3000 with non synthetics. I went about 4500 on the Mobil One Full synthetic. I have read the engineering stuff about oil breakdown on the high reeving engines. I am still at a loss. I am just going to drive it until it makes noise again. I will let yall know what happens.

I just replaced my TCT in an AP1 that i purchased a couple of months ago. I also changed the oil and it did quite down but in less than a month it started talking again. Check it with the hood open in a week to two. The part is cheap compared to another engine. Was going to purchase one of Billman's GenX TCT but took to long to get it here so just ordered one from the dealership. I will use the original TCT as a core swap when I see Billman next Spring at the Dragon. So no big deal for now. Best of luck with your AP1. https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/public/st...t-tip-wink.gif
