Mechanic needed

What work are you needing? Even I'm able to handle many tasks myself. Especially the maintenance tasks. For example the valve clearance check/adjustment is a simple task. Very tedious, but simple. I think the gaskets cost more than the special tools.

Chuck and S2000beers thanks for the feedback. My 2000, s2000 is 100% original, and I'm the second owner. I would like to have the car tuned up and I would be interested in a possible cold air intake and test pipe. Longer term, new top with a glass rear window(eliminates the plastic). Your thoughts who and where I can get this done?
Thanks
Michael

Talk to this guy, schedule some time at his shop, and let him do the basic recommended stuff. Then think about mods. For example, on an early generation AP1, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night without knowing if the AP2 valve retainers are installed as they ought to be. Anyway, this guy knows tons of stuff like this about S2000s. It will take double digit hours of research to figure all this out otherwise.

Billman was a great recommendation, sometimes someone will host him for a repair weekend so a group of people can get work done. I think I have seen posts about them in the past around Philly and DC areas.
Might be worth checking out Innovative MotorWorks (http://www.innovative-motorworks.com/index.php). I have no personal experience with this shop, but in the past I have heard positive things about them. Plus they have been around for awhile now too, so that is always a plus.

IMW does great work but might be busy. Call first.
Have you thought about doing the tasks yourself? What you're interested in as far as modifications; are very easy to do at home. A tune up can be had in the garage as well. This forum has a ton of information so you wouldnt be without help. The service manual can be downloaded as well. Unfortunately I am in Cleveland so I cannot lend a hand.

Bill in out in the Hamptons on Long Island and a half day drive from Harrisburg. But he's The Man.
I don't like low cold air intakes as the fear of ingesting water and hydro-lock haunt me. The K&N FIPK is pretty ubiquitous on our cars and is a simple bold on project. Claims to increase power a few HP but the intake sound alone is worth the cost.
A 63.5mm high flow cat will bolt right onto your car once you free the bolts from the rust, etc. Cat delete is both stinky and irresponsible.
If you're thinking of aftermarket exhausts and don't want to alienate your neighbors (and wife) consider the Tanabe Medalion Touring dual exhaust. Find the Mighty Car Mods episode where they put the Invidia Q300 on their S2000. But don't get the Q300 unless you want to wear hearing protection all the time. I learned that lesson the hard and expensive way. No one will pay retail for a Q300 even if it's only been used a couple of weeks!
The stock ECU will make adjustments for these minor modifications. The car will feel faster.
At the Gettysburg get together last month I learned the source of a new roof install. Turns out it's right here in Cleveland where I drive within a mile twice a day. I have just the tiniest tear in my roof but it's a bit like being a tiny bit pregnant. I'm told the job can be done in a day. If no one has the source remind me in the evening as the link is on my home PC.
Tuning is not possible on the pre-2006 cars without resorting to an aftermarket ECU. Do lots of research on this as you not only need the ECU (and maybe some sensors) but someone with a dyno or the ability to road tune the car. 2006 and later cars can do this with the Hondata FlashPro and a Gernby road tune.
My performance enhancements went like this: (1) K&N FIPK, (2) Berk 63.5mm high flow cat andInvidia Q300 Tanabe Medalion Touring dual exhaust, (3) Gernby FlashPro road tune (221rwhp and 3600 VTEC). These were spaced out over about 6 months.
Fluid changes, valve clearance adjustment, etc. can all be done in your garage at home.

Chuck - awesome post. I will follow your lead. Taking my s2000 to youngster in philly for an overhaul and look over. The car is perfect. Would like a more bass sound, few more horsepower under the hood. Long term would like to get a second set of rims, possibly black. Your thoughts?
