Anyone have high water temp
 

I was on my way to work yesterday running the AC. The temp on the gauge cluster said 111 degrees. After a bit I looked down and the water temp was 1 or 2 bars above half. I turned off the AC and about 4-5 mins later it was back to 2 below half. I turned on the AC again and in about 5 mins or so the water reading was at half. I shut down the AC and the water temp went back to 2 before half.

I'd like to know what your S's are running at before I upgrade the cooling system. Like I said with no AC the water temp is fine. TIA.

I don't have any overheating problems in the summer and haven't yet this summer. Have you checked your fluid level?

I couldn't tell you what my h2o temp is being that I have AP1. However I did notice a difference in the way the car acted after I did the Mugen cooling mods and Hondata manifold gasket.

I dont know maybe the fact you have a huge hair dryer underneath the hood which is going to raise your temps 120-130 degrees over outside temp so yeah on a day thats a 108 your going to run at least around 230-250 so that may be the issue.

Not sure what your running as far as cooling goes but look into running a dual or triple pass radiator and try a full bottle of Redliine Water wetter with the standard 50/50 mix of Honda coolant and youll drop your temps quite a bit.

I wasn't sure how efficient the stock cooling system was so I'll start looking at getting a new radiator. I don't want to be stuck without no AC for the summer!!

I know for a fact the system was burped correctly. I made sure of that. Thanks for the help.

Why not try the cooling mods first? I hear that Spoon T-stat, fan switch and rad cap actually make the car run cooler than the Mugen parts. Some that live in cooler temp areas have actually complained that the spoon parts make the car run too cool and actually keep the car from reaching full operating temp. And yes, I'm sure that being boosted isn't helping your underhood temps any. :)

I am thinking it is more an issue of not getting enough air-flow throught your intercooler to handle everything (IC, A/C, and Engine coolant) along with the fact that you are now cooling a scorching hot turbo.

I am also thinking that by venting your hood like it is you are creating a high pressure zone under your hood which further reduces the amount of air that can be drawn through the front.

Try putting your stock hood back on and see if anything changes.

I would go with the T-Stat and fan switch - I do not think the hondata gasket will buy you much from an engine coolant temp perspective (may give you a little lower IAT though).

A KOYO radiator would also help.

I would be interested to know your results if you try the hood swap. I am thinking about FI on my next S2000 (this one is leased) and am interested in the affects of vented hoods.

Disagree on the Tstat and fan switch. At least depending on the EMS but with Hondata and Neptune, it confused them so you're not supposed to mess with stock. Not sure if AEM has controls but should be able to set those options in there. Double check with the FI forums on that.

Cooling is always an issue with turbo and I could never shake that which is mainly why I got rid of the Teg. If you're hot now, there is no way your car will survive at the track.

EDIT: I forgot you have an 06. We don't even have a fan switch. ECU controls the fans.
