LS1 swap

The following conditions would need to be met to make this a project worth happening.
1. You have a blown motor in your S2000
2. You have a totaled Camaro or Corvette laying around
3. You have another car to drive
4. You have access to a fabrication shop
5. A couple thousand dollars you don't need
6. Very knowledgeable with wiring and electronics
If all these apply to you then go for it, other wise forget about it
In all seriousness I think you would struggle to even find a shop to do this for any amount let alone an affordable amount. Its not really a swap but a complete custom install. Yes people have done it but I'm sure they were in some kind of situation like the one I described above.

I have considered doing this a few times. Selling off my turbo kit and f20c along with drivetrain etc. I could probably break out close to even on ls2 engine and transmission. I know a couple of good fabricators, one who put a ls1 in a e36 m3. So fabrication wise I would think I would be in it a $2k. Then last would be the rear end. Full blown makes a good kit that would put you in it for around $3k. Then comes the stupid little crap. Wiring, gauges, etc.... Plus time. I would expect your car to be down for 6-12 months.
You biggest loss of money is going to be in the loss of value of you s2k. You will not get any money back from the parts and labor you put into the vehicle, and it will be hard to sell something that has been modified so heavily.

I'd say if you had a totaled s2k due to theft (ie seats and interior stolen) then have at it. That way the car is already worth way less and hoefully paid off and you can still sell the engine, trans, rear end and any other stuff and then do the build. Ls1's are pretty common engines but as many have mentioned its not like its a bolt in swap and are you really going to get that much more over a good built F20/22 and a turbo or SC? It would be way cheaper to just buy a vette and it would probably work better also.

depending on if you want to upgrade the diff or not, and what engine/trans combo you get, expect between 8k-12k. seen plenty of the 4.8l and 5.3l swaps, still with great results. just more cost effective. you wouldn't want a corvette, as the layout and transmission will end up costing you more. best bet is a camaro or TA. good luck, and enjoy the tire melting!

I'd plan on fitting the car with HUGE rubber as well. If you want it driveable, it will probably need a widebody and run at least 285s.
IMO, build a motor for SC or turbo and keep the weight down. Spend the extra money you save on NOT doing a crazy motor swap on lightening the car or widebody to handle the power better. You get to retain PS and AC as well. I'm pretty sure a 400whp S2000 that weighs 2600lbs will murder a 2900lb S2000 with a 450whp LS1/2/3. I'd rather see a 2JZgte put in though.. .
