Default New Motor

So I have reached the point where I have decided that my motor has reached a point where it either needs to be rebuilt or swapped for something newer. Even if I could probably squeeze out more miles from it, I don't want to risk sacrificing longevity in trade for saving a little money. That said I have come to a crossroads where I need to decide whether or not I want to rebuild or get a new motor, and if I go the route of a new motor, what year should I get. I currently have a 2001 ap1. I was hoping that I could pull in an ap2 engine and take advantage of the bigger engine but still maintain 9k on the tach, but I don't think that is possible.

That said just looking for input on what you think would be a good combo. Should I get a new tranny during this process? What about ECU? Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

How many miles does your engine have? what are you noticing that makes you think you need a new one? Oil consumption, bad compression test..?

If i was going to get another engine id want an F20 over an F22.... I'd try to get an 02-03, or make sure the one had the updated banjo bolts. Also, i think they made some updates in 02 to the tranny, so maybe getting both would be a nice upgrade, although im sure your tranny is fine unless you have complaints with it.

Hmm, nothing in particular stands out for why I am ready to do this. I have a self-developed theory that if you fix something when you suspect its life is reaching its end, but before it is done (thus preventing quote unquote problems), you help avoid further problems. Dont know if its necessarily true, but nonetheless something I have lived by for the 2 and a half years I have owned this car.

My engine currently is about to break 150k. I know, like I said, I could probably push out another 50k if not more, but I don't know if I want to. Especially with the way I use and drive my car, I'm sure I am far from original spec, and it would be nice to regain that power.

Does that make any sense at all or does it sound like im about to drop a shit-ton of money for no reason?

To furnish that question with some information:
My engine is highly maintained; I never miss an oil change, I am always on top of maintenance and ensure that everything looks, sounds, and feels good. But with how I drive it, and beat it up on runs and roads, I'm sure it couldn't do anything but help it were I to switch it or rebuild it.

How many miles do you have? There are people w/ over 200k miles on the stock engine.

should go dyno that bitch, i'd be interested to see how much power it's making at 150k miles.

If you did want to go with the F22C and keep the 9k RPM limit, I think Hondata's K-Pro lets you change the rev limiter. But that would require using a K series (RSX) ECU and replacing some of the sensors with other compatible sensors. It probably wouldn't be worth the money to do that though unless you're planning on going the FI route. But even then some might argue that AEM EMS would be a better management system.
I would probably just rebuild. Or try this....

I really think that you should do what I was thinking about doing when mine goes. F22 w/ 00-01 ecu.
