Dancer, I had a luggage rack on one of my Miatas (previous owner installed it) and I never used it, not even for a two week drive up the coast of California and into Oregon. I just found a m/hotel with a laundry on premise about half way through the trip.

A few years ago I took my S out to Sedona and then the Grand Canyon for a full week, and my ex and I were able to fit all our luggage fine. And it was COLD too so we had heavier clothes with us. It's just a weekend, so I've got to believe you can fit anything you need in there so long as you use duffle bags and don't carry anything extraneous. Seriously though, normally I would have no problem with planning that far ahead for an event like this; however, this year is the year I swore to myself that I was going to go to Italy. And I was figuring on doing that at either the end of September or beginning of October. It is unlikely I could swing both Italy and the Devil's Highway trip so I should focus on the bigger one, you know? But yeah, this sounds like a hoot and I think it would be a lot of fun!
