[BRI] CRUISE: Queen Mary Falls

Hi all SE QLD S2KI'ers,

EvilS2K581 & I invite you on our next drive, that will take us past Queen Mary Falls south of Boonah. For those thinking Queen-who and Boon-where, think south of Beaudesert down into enemy territory. If you enjoyed the Lions Rd run a few years ago, you won't be disappointed. :-) If you still don't what I'm talking about, dust off the atlas (map!) :-p Or take a look at the route. Anyway, there's some good, quiet driving to be had down there, free of riff raff.

We've even put a teaser together!

The drive date has been decided - Sunday 1st April. Thanks for the votes, sorry to those who voted for Anzac Day. Unfortunately there were insufficient votes for Anzac Day so we likely would not have got the required numbers to open the cafe.

Now for the obligatory disclaimers:

1. It's not motorsport, nor is it boys behaving badly, it's a cruise. We have a great record from our previous cruises, let's uphold our behaviour.

2. We're travelling over country roads, don't expect F1 grade asphalt (or anything near it). Some parts are in poor condition - bumpy, very patchy, sunken edges etc. What's more, there are several cattle grids (none too savage), and perhaps a first for us, a few minor creek crossings! WTF I hear, don't worry, it didn't even reach my 16" wheels on reccy, but it will be dependent on preceding weather, so if there's been too much recent rain, we'll need to backtrack.

3. Some of the best parts of the road are damn narrow too! :-( That means you need to drive within the conditions, because there's not much room to move if we encounter some oncoming traffic (and 4wds roam these parts).

4. So if you've got yourself a slammed lowrider or running some fats (I love talking old school!), you need to be conscious that you might get nervous in parts, and or sparks will fly. Resident lowrider EvilS2K581 assessed the track as bearable for you crowd, but drive with caution.

5: It's a biggish drive, probably 300km or so round trip from memory, depending on where you're coming from. Chances are you'll be tired by the time you arrive home. Fill the tank BEFORE we meet, facilities will be VERY LIMITED. Stick some air in the spare tyre while you're at it, because RACQ might take a while.

If you're not put off yet, the good news is there's a great cafe we plan to visit, and it's sure to impress any better halves. It overlooks a beautiful green valley and rolling hills. The food is decent too, price is reasonable (~$20 for healthy snack, ~$30 for mains). They even serve grog! Parking is well offroad, but gravel. It is best we book, so I kindly request reliable numbers so we can get a suitable table altogether in a prime spot.

The schedule is:
 • 8:15am 1st meet point arrival: Acacia Ridge Hotel 1386 Beaudesert Rd Acacia Ridge
 • 8:30am 1st meet point departure (don't be late!)
 • ~9:20am 2nd meet point arrival: Hungry Jacks, 155 Brisbane St Beaudesert
 • 9:45am 2nd meet point departure (don't be late!)
 • Group photos @ Rathdowney
 • Head south, briefly into enemy territory
 • Quickly return to God's territory!
 • Briefly stop at Daggs Falls, stretch the legs
 • 2nd group photo opportunity on close-by mountain bend if we choose
 • ~12:00pm lunch arrival @ Spring Creek Mountain Cafe
 • Continue on after our long lunch, the best part of the drive to come!
 • Finally reach Boonah, Bris vegans can return home via Cunningham Hwy or Beaudesert, Goldilocks will take the latter route
Plan on getting home no earlier than mid arvo.

In the meantime, it's time for a nominations please - below is the roll call that I'll update as you advise your attendance. Be sure to advise of passengers to help with the cafe booking (which is being booked on Thursday 29/03/2012).

Roll call

Why does every meet have to be gold coast lol!
what I would give to have a meet closer to brisbane...

Most all meets are out of Brisbane, Byron was just a one off btw.
Either meetup is at Milton or Yatala. This meet / drive is being organised by a Brisbanite, just so happens it midwayish between Brisbane and Gold Coast. Roo is infamous for putting together exceptional drives with a lot of thought and research. Also always something different that has been done least before. All drives organised cover many facets, like the route itself, lunch spot, and overall safety that makes for a fun day out with other S 2000 enthusiasts. THIS RUN IS SHAPING UP TO BE MEMORABLE if not EPIC

Btw: us guys that stayed on in Byron and did the Lighthouse hike were saying that all drives should be as this was, memorable.

r00_644 02-20-2012 10:21 PM

Gee, thx 4 the big vote of confidence xoz! It's a nice drive this one, but the roads are crap in parts, that's what u get off the beaten track. Hopefully it will be memorable :-). Sorry Matt that it's out of the way, ninelarge our usual tour guide has taken us north on some occasions, so I'm sure your patience will be rewarded in future. Perhaps u could help us put one together up there, do some scouting?

Evil filled in the Byron gaps 4 me, it did sound nice.

Unfortunately, central Brisbane (read Brisbane City Council) is tiny and built-up, so most cruises (if not all that I can remember) are held throughout greater Brisbane. If you go on a cruise, be prepared to drive for several hours... :)

Looking forward to it r00

ninelarge 02-20-2012 10:44 PM

Btw, I don't mind either date. I have a personal interest for ANZAC day, but it'd also be good to see ncmx5 out with us on a cruise again

r00_644 02-20-2012 10:50 PM

I've got a few old novel brisvegas cruises in the vault, but being a big city with associated traffic woes, they're best done @ night. I'll gauge interest later this year.

ninelarge 02-20-2012 10:57 PM

Sounds interesting. This could be the first year over the past 6 where I won't organise a cruise lol

r00_644 02-20-2012 11:03 PM

Dude I don't wanna go invading ur territory now, ur da cruize man!

ninelarge 02-20-2012 11:45 PM

Haha nah, it's always good to see others getting the group together for social events as well :)

xoz 02-21-2012 01:23 AM

Haha while on the subject of group drives being organised, there are no set or specific rules to adhere to, sort of like how you choose to make it. Having said this everyone is invited or rather should say that it's an open door to whom ever decides to "go for it" and put something together. There is no order of command involved here, just different levels of experience and enjoyment.

I personally like the idea of a drive organised once every 1-2 months, knowing full well that it's highly possible that attendees will vary up or down depending on local enthusiasts preferences and timing. But its best to never let attendee numbers phase you. The Byron Bay drive last weekend was enjoyable not based on numbers but the company of friends. :tipwink:

Go for it guys!!
Back on topic now

triccytriddy 02-23-2012 03:14 AM

April 1 sounds good...the bumpy roads dont haha. hopefully nuthin 2 serious, i like keepin my S on the tarmac. Sounds like a cool drive though. Route map?

EVILS2K581 02-24-2012 04:33 PM

I'm guessing route map is coming soon, but here is a really short Trailer for the event. =)

ninelarge 02-27-2012 12:24 PM

Nice little video Evil

ncmx5 02-27-2012 02:36 PM

nice vid. should front mount the cam.

ncmx5 02-27-2012 02:37 PM

ANZAC day so i can go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVILS2K581 02-28-2012 03:07 AM

Thanks guys for the comments on the vid, yeah I'm still working on camera angles though; shall try front mount on next runs.

And yes I think Anzac day is the go too =) I keep hearing about ncmx5, but he's always caught up on weekends.
It would be nice to put a face to a username =).

On a side note, ninelarge; are we considering "The big kart track" again this year?
Hopefully the wheather will hold up :argh: . (I've been holding out for that event for so long now! :D )

So back on topic nows. Anzac day for April cruise! Please ppl! :p

ninelarge 02-28-2012 03:40 AM

Yep, some karting later this year - keep your diaries free for the Queen's birthday long weekend :)

r00_644 02-28-2012 03:45 AM

The votes are 3 all so far folks. I wasn't expecting it to be as decisive as K Rudd's spanking, but we don't want a "hung parliament" either, so get voting!

Triccy - yes there'll be a route map up ...sometime :-)

Big thx 2 evil for the teaser, champ.

triccytriddy 02-29-2012 11:06 PM

yea we definetly dont want a hung parliament, im hung enough for everyone...haha! :surprised:
But on a serious note, really looking forward to this cruise, seems like a lot of plannin has gone into it. Hopin its not on ANZAC day as i treat this day with the utmost respect and get get plastered with my mates annually.
1st April ftw

triccytriddy 02-29-2012 11:09 PM

hey! which wise guy took his vote of the 1st n moved it to the 25th? last time i checked it was 3 a piece...i smell a rat :suspect:

r00_644 03-06-2012 03:35 AM

Bump. The score is 4-3 to Anzac Day, but we're going to need decent numbers for Anzac Day for the cafe to open for us, so if ppl want that date, more need to make the voice heard. Spread the word!

Jase 03-07-2012 02:02 AM

Hey Paul, sounds great.....I am in :D

Cheers

Jase

EVILS2K581 03-07-2012 05:21 AM

I knew Jase was floating around somewhere he rarely misses the cruises =)
wooohoo! this cruise is going to be epic!
On a side note I shall be taking a very long detour from work in the next couple of days to venture the designated route to see if the downpour of rain recently will hinder our movements on the day.

Cheers all!

Do$tylz 03-07-2012 04:32 PM

^^ can you check for any rivers that we may be driving over and if they're worth a flick??> if you're not sure, take a picture and send through :)

r00_644 03-07-2012 07:28 PM

The rivers r really small streams normally, no wider than the length of our cars. When we did reccy, they didn't even reach the wheel rims so not even lawrie Lawrence could argue it was dangerous. That said it is susceptible 2 recent weather so we will check again shortly prior. These crossings r post-cafe stop, so we have the option of going back the way we came, but u will miss some sweet tarmac.

triccytriddy 03-09-2012 02:04 AM

Queen Mary falls itself is def worth a pic....how i remember it when i was young anyway

you make yourself sound so old

just a quick report back about the track everyone, it still looks good even after the rain, water was very much like last time a light trickle lapping at the tyres, so its still a go!

triccytriddy 03-12-2012 12:50 AM

haha, well i went 17 years ago, so i was "younger" then what i am now....better?

I've just completed final reccy in poor conditions, track is good, 1 water crossing up 2 ankle, 2 crossings dribbling over foot, the others had no water.

r00_644 03-23-2012 02:14 AM
