1:40.6 at Winton!
Woohoo!!! Just got back from Winton and I came back with 1:40.6 time ... my best ever!!. This is not in an S2000 but in my 350Z on R-spec tyres. Not sure if I can get into 1:39s, but the car has certainly got 1:39s in it.
I was at Winton with the WRX-club and it was a perfect day out there ... perfect weather, no mishaps and plenty of track time. I managed to get 7 sessions, which is about 40 laps ... 2 of those were passanger sessions and 3 were super-sprints.
There were no S2000s at all, but there was a worked (turbo-charged) Civic. It was certainly moving ... it was on R-spec tyres and was lapping in 1:44s if I remember correctly.
Also I had a friend with an EVO 8 there. It has suspension mods, 210kW atw but was on road tyres and he managed to get into 1:43s. It was his 1st time at Winton even though he's been to other tracks. It was certainly moving.

Great time. Well done.
Thanks Aircon, I'm very happy to be in 1:40.xx. I have not seen you around the track-meets for a while ... do you still get out there and do the club-sprints?

I think the FCA has a day at Winton in June. I might do that one.
If you're also looking for other events then check out the club-sprint calendar from most of the local clubs in here:

It's a shame to have a car like that and not give it a good workout once in a while. If you need someone to do it, I'm more than available ;-)

Great time David. Are you going to stop now that you are as quick as Motor nmagazine in an Evo 8 or keep on going for the Exiges time?
Found this on the HRT website:

Thats a spectacular time David, well done! Great time David. Are you going to stop now that you are as quick as Motor nmagazine in an Evo 8 or keep on going for the Exiges time?
Thanks guys, I'm very happy with the 1:40.6, but I'll be aiming for 1:39s next time ... so yeah, I'm after the Exige time next ;-) Though, I'll be happy to cut off another 1/2sec next time I go ... and even that will not be easy. Though, realisticaly I can see getting into 1:39s, but not low ones like they managed with the Exige.
Found this on the HRT website:
Those must be V8 Supercars speeds ... looks at the speed at the end of the straights.

While I was at Winton I had a really cool data-logging device in my car. It measures the speed, G-forces, position and all kind of other cool stuff through a GPS. Not only does it measure this, but it also records all this data so that you can plot 'cool' graphs later and analize the data. I thought some people here would be interested in some of the cool things that you can find out from the data it records ... like for instance:
- My top speed on the main straight was 169kph (real speed)
- My top speed on the back straight was 150kph (real speed)
- My top speed on the pit straight was 141kph (real speed)
- My 'hypothetical' best time (ie. by combining my best sectors) is 1:39.86. That is without going quicker anywhere in particular, but more just by getting every corner/section right.
- Putting a 75kg passenger in my car drops my top speed on the main straight to 163.5kph. ie. I lose about 5kph with 75kg.
- Putting a 75kg passenger in my car drops my lap-times by about 1.5sec. That means that every extra 50kg in my car slows me down by 1sec per lap.
- My best 60 - 160kph acceleration returned 10.64sec (ie. 60 - 160kph = 10.64sec)
- My best 100 - 160kph acceleration returned 7.54sec (ie. 100 - 160kph = 7.54sec)
- My best 60 - 160kph acceleration with a 75kg passanger on board returned 11.94sec (ie. 60 - 160kph = 11.94sec, or 1.3sec slower than when solo in the car)
- My 2nd-to-3rd gear-change took 0.58sec on the main straight, and 0.48sec on the back straight
- My 3rd-to-4th gear-change took 0.34sec on the main straight, and 0.36sec on the back straight
- Largest lateral Gs recorded were 1.201g
- Largest braking Gs recorded were 1.224g
Also here is a very cool 'time vs speed' graph of my best 'solo' lap plotted against by best lap with a passenger. Bellow it is the 'lateral G' graph from the same 2 laps:
You can see that I had to brake a fraction earlier and also the acceleration curves are not as steep. And here are the lap-times and sector times for 3 sessions ... 1st being my quickest one, 2nd one being stuck behind other cars and 3rd one is clear but with a passenger. You can see all the best sector times highlighted:
And here's a map of Winton showing the sectors listed in the above table:
How cool is all this stuff ... I love it!
