From everything I've read you can't use a obd2 scanner. Although surely there must be a adaptor cable that reads the faults, I mean what do the dealerships do in there workshops

Look for the DLC under the drive side dash. There should be 2 blue plugs held in side a green plug case.
Find the blue plug with 2 wires and use a paper clip to jump the terminals.
Turn ignition on but don't start the car.
The engine check light will flash and display any stored codes.

Hope that helps.

Dealerships use a PGM-FI reader. This was Honda's standard before OBDII was introduced.

Had same issue with my NZ new S2000 (UKDM) so no obd2....

My first JDM s2000 had OBD2 and loved the amount of info you could get so I bought one of these localy (trademe ftw!) ($150 so about 130 AUSD)....

as you can see apart from error codes from ECU,SRS,ABS etc it shows all sorts of useful data...

which paper clip in a plug and cluster wont with blinking lights

also you can do things like reset steering angle sensor with it like dealer with PGM tester...
