AAMI doubles premium on older S2000s
Premium last year $1008.
Premium on upcoming renewal $2162.
Amount insured virtually identical - approx $40000.
It is not just me either.
I got an anonymous quote on the web and the amount was even higher.
Playing with the parameters the significant factor appears to be vehicle age.
Mine is a 2001 which I have owned since new.
If it was a 2005, 2006 or 2007 the premium is similar to last year.
If it is a 2004 or older the premium jumps to the new level.
Time to jump ship - if I can find another insurer that is cheaper.

It's strange that they would do that. Any ideas why?
I'm with Shannons for ~1100.

Although I can't really believe that one factor would outweigh things such as my age (55) and good record (lifetime max discount).

Ryno is good, i 2nd that, bt the problem is that they r a small private firm, they dont have a 24hr help/claim line, and they dont work on weekends, plus they cant give u a instant quote. bt it is cheap.

have you rang them up personally and asked why Dave ?
if they dont give you a satisfactory response, ask to speak to their manager and TELL them you have been a loyal customer for over 5yrs ! if they dont give you the same price as you have been paying , threaten to pull your other insurance business with them as well and that you will write a letter to their management / customer service teams to state your disatifaction as a customer .

Good record Dave?
I expect it is the youth popularity that is doing us in. Will be interesting to see what Shannons come back with. I'm due for renewal soon.

My record IS good - except for one at fault accident two years ago.
And I could understand if they penalized me for that (though I would not expect it) but this seems to be unrelated to driving record.
