Default Advice on suspension??

Hi all,

I have an `01 S2000 and was thinking about getting the car lowered. I was wondering if anyone out there has lowered their S2000 and what sort of springs you have used if you have.

I rang a place here in WA and got quoted for a set of Eibach springs fitted and the price I got was $900. One of my mates told me that was a bit steep.

I'm not concerned about spending a little extra if it means better quality springs and ride.

Has anyone out there got any useful info they could pass on to me?

Oh, BTW, the car is solely for street use and I still have the stock rims fitted.

Thanks in advance

That does sound a little steep - I would have thought for a good quality set of Jap or European springs you'd be looking at something around the $650 - $700 mark installed.

Might be worth your while shopping around a little...

BTW I think AusS2000 has H&R springs on his S so he might be able to give you a better opinion re streetability.

I got the H&R's pretty cheap. I was at an Auto Salon and the distributor had a special on H&R's. The special was any set for $440. As most of them were $550 that was 20% off. I guess they didn't count on an S2000 owner because the RRP on S2000 springs was $760. Still, they honoured their offer and I got them for $440 plus $220 installation.

When you consider the retail price and install that price of $900 is about right. But shop around. I love the H&R's but I've heard great things about the KG/mm's and the Eibachs.

The H&R's lower the car about 1/2 and inch which is a nice and subtle change without being a pain to drive.

Maybe speak with Adrianc and see what he can get you from Japan.

Y not save abit more and get a set of coil-overs? I got mine and it was the best purchase i've made for the car. If you think the S handles like a dream stock?.... wait till u shod it with a set of decent coil-overs.....

oh... btw... most coil-overs has adjustable height and dampers, so u don't have to worry much about ordering a set of springs at a particular height u prefer...

Oh gees szooo_r, don't talk about coil-overs.

All the topics on suspension in the Australian forum have so far involved AusS2000 talking about how Japanese suspension bits are overpriced and do not suit Australian conditions (which I agree with), and everyone else talking about teins and other 'JDM' brands regardless.

S2KWA seems to focus on lowered height and a good ride quality - so let's leave it at that eh?

(What 'brand' do you have anyway?)

szooo_r....thanks for the info. However, I don't really think I need the coilovers for the sort of use my car gets. Don't get me wrong, I drive it hard, but the standard setup does a good enough job for me on the road.

I basically want to give the car a lower stance....more than anything for cosmetic purposes. I know that a set of springs can easily achieve this and just wanted any opinions from other S drivers with some good quality lower springs.

Are there any Perth people out there that have had their S2000 done?

I looked at this a while back and I was very interested in KG/mm race springs but was told that for $800 just for the springs I would be better off going to a well known suspension shop and getting them to make them to my specs.

One thing that I didnt ask was can any shop make progressive springs? I think that the KGmms are progressive which makes them mild when driving easier.

Can anyone say who the Australian company was/is that had the contract to make springs for BMW? They were progressive if I remember correctly.
