Default Beeps on key insertion

I've noticed the number of beeps when I insert my key into the ignition changes. I have heard it go anywhere from 3 to 6 beeps.

Now i've taken a punt that maybe this might have something to do with when the car is ready to start ? anyone else noticed this or can shed some light on it for me. I've looked through the manual and couldn't find anything about beeps, any ideas ?

Is this a new car you just own or have you recently done anything to the car?

I know for sure that my car should beep 3x after I start. If it doesn't then I would be worried. This is due to a few aftermarket mods. Standard car should not beep like you mentioned.

It's a '99 S2000. I'll check out tonight if the doors open make any difference, but i don't think that it does.

My '99 beeps X amount of times when you start it without the drivers seatbelt buckled....apart from the pesky beeping when the key is put in the ign with the drivers door open......will have to count those beeps tomorrow...

Car beeps if key is in ignition while driver's side door is open.
Car will stop beeping after 5 seconds if electrics are turned on while driver's side door is open.
Car beeps for a few seconds if driver's seatbelt is not buckeled when car is started.

And yes.... they are all very annoying.

Put the seat belt in before inserting the key and shut the door and no beeps

I bet you can't get that blasted beeping to stop with the drivers door open and the key in the ign and just on ACC to listen to the radio or CD while you clean the car interior (with door open and just on ACC)....posted a question here some time ago and got plenty of responses but no 'joy'......
Let me know if you work that one out...

well if you just have the key turned to the first point for the radio and the doors are open, it will beep forever. However if you turn the key to the second (end) point where all the electrics are turned on, and have the door open, it will beep six times then stop. It shouldn't drain the battery if you are only cleaning your car and not have it like that all day.

Blackie, but i was always told years ago never to leave the ign turned on without starting the engine....burn out the coil and electrics etc, etc....thats why i just wanted the key to ACC and the driving door open.....
