Can i live with half hp?

Hey reader,

I'm new to the forums, still migrating here from the Evo page. Currently have my 8 MR listed on carsales (hoping it sells soon), and i'll be moving on to an Ap2, if you have one and might be interested let me know. You can be anywhere in Australia, i'll make the travel for the right one.

I've got a straight forward question, i was inspecting an S2000 Ap2 2006 today, and noticed there wasn't any VIN stickers on the Door Jams, bonnets etc, do those spots only concern the USDM models? And where can i find the 10 Vin Stickers on Aus models?

Cheers :)

There are no VIN details on door jambs.
The VIN is visible through the windscreen glass, at the base. This is from my AP1 - I believe AP2 is the same.
The VIN is also pop-riveted under the bonnet - near the strut tower if I recall correctly

Will you keep the AP2 stock? You may wish it had more grunt down low but you will enjoy the roof off and fun around corners.

AP1 and AP2 refer to the 2.0 and 2.2 engines respectively. I thought only North America and Japan got the AP2 and everyone else had the AP1.

If DBW cars (2006 and later in North America) made it to Oz they can tuned for much more mid range horsepower.

Correct. We never officially got the AP2 as a new engine required new DOT certification and crash testing. Honda stuck with the F20C.

That said, there are a quite a few other changes in the later model S's and they are known colloquially as AP2 even though the VIN still says AP1.

Not true. The F20C is highly tuned from the factory and not much was left on the table. The flashable ECUs in alter S's allow some tuning but gains are negligible to non-existant.

Understand the colloquially of calling 2004+ cars AP2. It does confuse some discussion when we have USDM and other cars.

Tuning? Yep, not much left on the table at peak power. Peak HP will be remain relatively the same without major mechanical changes. Where power occurs is important and a tune can add much mid range power. This is very easy with the DBW cars as it can be done via FlashPro and not an aftermarket ECU.

With two cams there's more mid range power available by dropping the cam change-over (AKA VTEC) rpm point. Requires more than just typing a number into the tuning software though, so I let a tuner set everything. My VTEC engagement is 3600rpm at WOT providing a lot more power from that point rather than waiting to 6000 rpm to engage. From 6000 on up, of course the power is right about where it always was but I've got a 2400 rpm head start on it. Acceleration is so quick now I added an audible red line alarm to keep from bumping the rev limiter all the time.

VTEC Yo! is largely eliminated as the car is on the high power cam very quickly and stays there.
