Default Clutch rebuilds

Steve and I are looking to have clutches rebuilt and would be interested in recommendations.

Chris Barry has recommended Sydney Brake and Clutch in St Marys. Unfortunately that is just too far as you always end up going back and forth with auto guys.

Can anyone recommend someone closer tot he city or on the Northern Beaches?

Steve is having a stock clutch rebuilt and I'm having an Exedy Hyper Single done.

Good luck with the search.

Thanks for the offer King, but these are both cores that I had lying around.

Can't help you out Aus, but I would think with clutch rebuilding it is highly likely to be a once off visit, so i'd just go with the reputable mob even if it's a trek.

Aus out of curiousity how did the Race Brakes unit you had go?

The Race Brakes unit is great. Holds all my power well and I'm a real clutch abuser.

But as I'm building a new block I thought a nice clutch at the same time might be good.

Sorry but what is the difference between rebuilding clutch as opposed to replacing clutch?
Maybe some one can do a group replacement of clutch. I'm sure a lot of the 1st gen S2000 are due for clutch replacement at least.

Thank you,

When you replace the clutch you throw out the old parts. When you rebuild you replace the friction material of the friction disk and either ensure the pressure plate and flywheel are good or machine then if necessary/possible.

The reason is that a stock clutch can be rebuilt fairly cheaply. Or you can do what I did and have the stock clutch rebuilt with stiffer springs and heavier duty friction material. Mine has been holding over 300 hp for quite some time now for the paltry cost of $565.

Aus, I haven't any experience in the S2k clutches, but definately in the Nissan drivetrain field.

I had a clutch built (and rebuilt later) from Jim Berry in QLD, he also built a clutch for a customer at GTECH which was running low 11s (that's a lot of stress on a clutch plate for a 4WD).

Best thing about it was that it was full organic face, with clamp pressure of around 2600lbs. At first a little hard on the clutch pedal (minor adjustments can be made to the fork/cylinders to help this though) but boy did it grip!

Perfectly streetable, yet perfectly trackable.

Give Jim a call, tell him the guy with the black 200sx from Melbourne sent you... I'm not sure he'll remember.. but if he does, he'll have a few stories to tell you on how fussy I was!

Cheers,

-R
