Default CV HELP!

Hey guys,

My CV`s are gone. I rang up Hanny`s and was advised im looking at $650 each. Plus fitting. They said that Honda dont have any in the country and that im looking at a couple of weeks.

So I started doing some searching around and have emailed and rang a stack of CV joint specialists. Half of these people dont even know what an s2000 is. No one has been able to give me a price as yet. Really starting to piss me off.

Has anyone replaced their CV joints and used another source other than Honda? The only option I have been offered is to take the car in and have them measure up to see if another one will fit......

I cant handle the vibrations anymore.....

If the problem is with your inner CV joints you can swap them from left to right. The vibrations are caused by trench like wear on the contact patches inside the CV's. When you reverse them it runs on different surfaces with no noise. Its a bit like turning over a doormat when one side gets dirty.

Thanks Chris..... I did that about 2 years ago.... Worked great until a few weeks ago...... Now I have the same issue as before..... that is when accelarating hard in 3rd and 4th gear from 4k -5.5k RPM I have a severe vibration from the year. My car has done just over a 100K kms... They probably got swapped over 30k kms ago. My car is lowered which ive been told doesnt help.

Bugger, looks like its time for a new/used pair. You could try Hontoys to see if they have a pair of used ones. It is possible to convert them to a much more robust Nissan inner CV but it will be more expensive with more downtime.

Other option is to install 10mm spacers so the CV's run on a different surface. Any good engineering shop could do it. I would love to help but I'm overloaded for the next few weeks getting my race car prepped for its next meeting.

Otherwise this will happen again .

Yeah Peter always gives me shit.....

Anyways.... I rang a dozen different company`s and even took it in to a cv specialist. Apperantly no one does aftermarket cv`s. I even called a couple of honda dealers and was quoted $597ea inc GST.

Now my issue with that is Hanny`s quoted me $650 plus $80 for fitting. Wouldnt they get the parts at trade prices?

If you want a quick fix find some second hand. We'll reverse them and install them at my place. Cost you a good bottle of scotch.
