Engine light comes ON during Cold Start
Hey ppl,
The 'Engine light' comes ON every time when I start her up when Cold. After the third bar (temp) comes on, I'll shut and restart, and the light doesnt come in...ie No light when warm up. Basically, the light comes on when the car is cold. No matter how many times I stop and start her (when cold). I have not been driving my car for about a month (was overseas). I've tried resetting (ie disconnecting the Battery)...but still on the same tank of fuel... Any thoughts ? Thanks Thomas |
that doesn't sound good tom
for us to have a crack at this, you prob need to tell us more about your car and any other symptoms beside the cel; any hesitation, rough idle etc? |
Sorry - the car is fairly standard.
Drives normal and smooth, Vtec engages, Just like normal - when the car is WARMed up... When cold - nothing obvious as far as I can see or hear...just the CEL is ON.... Idling is normal. Basically car drives normal. I'll be dropping the car off to the dealer later this evening(under warranty).....but any thoughts would be good. When cold start - the CEL comes ON Then I'll leave the car running until the 3rd temp bar comes on. Then shut her down, restart her - CEL DOESNT come on. :banghead: |
Just fishing here but could it be related to the functioning of the air pump? Maybe it's crook?
Are there any other specific parts/sensors that are involved specifically during cold starts? |
:iagree:
|
ok -- just dropped the car into the dealer.....
If it's air pump - would it do any harm? - if I dont get it replaced asap....? Just curious - as I might need the car for the following weeks...and just in case they dont have the parts in stock... Thanks for the prompt responses...... |
If it's the air pump then there is no problem driving it. It's purpose is to pump air into the Catalytic Convertor to heat it up quicker so that it can start doing it's job quick. It's part of the ULEV emissions system.

Thanks for the info again...
I'm looking thru the S2000 CD (mechanical and tech info) - And am wondering....would a blown fuse (in the Air Pump fuse box) causes the CEL to be ON ? |
Could be. You should check the fuse. Usually a viual inspection will tell you if it's blown.
But then the question is: Why did it blow? |
ok - got the car back...
Blown fuse- replaced it straight away and problem solved.....it was the fuse in the air pump fuse box. To replace the fuse requires the removal of fron bumper though..... Thanks for all the information and prompt responses guys !!!  |
