If you have (or are thinking of getting) an aftermarket head unit and want to retain your dash controls I have spare PAC SWI-3 (or Pinky's Audio Controls) for sale.

This unit will control ANY head unit that has an IR remote control. It learns which function you wish to apply to each button on your dash. When you press the dash button it emits the same IR signal as the remote would for the assigned function.

The unit is prewired to the Honda plug and only requires wiring to the connector that comes with your head unit. It has the resistor change required for the S2000 and a relay to make the mute work.

Asking $180 shipped in Australia.

Sheez, you guys don't know what you are missing out on if:

A) You haven't upgraded your stereo head unit.[red]*[/red]
B) You have, and you've lost your dash controls.

Can you confirm whether the unit functions ok with the stereo door closed? I have been considering something for a while now.

Am debating whether to go the IR or order the hardwired Alpine solution.

Yes, it works fine with the door closed.

Infact, with the Sony unit I had to have the transmitter protruding quite a bit because the receiver on the head units closed face was on the left, whilst the receiver on the inside face is one the right. As a result I sometimes (very rarely BTW) had a lack of response when I had the door open and was driving with the sun behind me shining directly at the head unit. I guess the sunlight interfered with the IR signal. I think I noticed this 3 times in the year or so I had the PAC installed.

Never once had a problem with the door closed.

This is a great solution which can assign any IR function to the four buttons on the dash (Vol up, Vol down, Mode, Channel) and the mute functions beautifully with an ATT, Mute or CELL lead.

I'll bite. Why? Mine seems to play CDs in the stacker and receive the radio quite nicely. What else do you get if you change it?

There are however other benefits to a third party head unit but they depend on both the features of the head unit, and their satisfying your personal needs. You may want MP3, Aux input, line level outs, a funky display or what have you.

Or even just a billoddy clock! (MY2000's only)
