I have heard on the grapevine (from a highly respected source) that Honda Australia is experiencing some rough times and all is not as rosy as it once was.
My sources suggest a number of dealers may be shut down in each state - there are two in Victoria who are in Honda's sights.
The story goes that it will all be done before 30 June so Honda can get its house in order ready for the new financial year.

Honda cars are never cheap and the low Australia dollar against the Yen only makes things worse, with 3 price rises since totally up to $6,000.00 ... No wonder there aren't much sales compared to the last financial year. Not that I have anything to worry about anyway.

Billyblue, you are quite correct. I worked for a Japanese IT company for 20 years and am quite versed in the intricacies of trying to close business by end March which is an artificial deadline which few Australian companies recognise or respect.
However, from the perspective of Australian motor trade measuring periods and also quarterly targets 30/6 is when Honda are planning to make their move.

Had some further discussions with my local Honda dealer today. Apparently they have been given 6 months reprieve but Honda still wants to reduce the # of dealerships by around 20% by end calendar year.
My dealer also stated that their own new vehicle sales volumes have dropped dramatically in the last 3 months. The top seller was the CRV but sales have now disappeared as the new Ford/Mazda light FWD is dominating that market.

That's consistent with what I have been told as well. Sales are not great by any stretch of the imagination and even the CRV is struggling with the latest competition.
The Civic just has not taken off as I think people believe it is too expensive for what you get.
I understand they are really hanging out for a new CRV but I don't know when this is expected.
