Default i think i wanna cry :( stuffed engine. dhess i need some help !

the pics say it all
http://www.pbase.com/ballfire/blown_engine

can't seem to add new pics into my photo album even tho i have been a registered owner for almost 2yrs

story :
5/2000 s2000 60500km on the clock serviced every 5000km
just picked up the missus after work. driving from a stop light to 100km zone . i thought i would have some fun. revved 1st gear to 9k change, 2nd to 9krpm and change to 3rd but then nothin happened.. stepped on the gas but the car wasnt revving anymore.... whirring sound from engine bay....then i put the car into 4th gear and stepped on the gas... nothin .. put the car into neutral and slowed gradually to a halt and then i noticed that the engine was no longer on

tried to start the car but didnt start. some mechanical noise so i stopped pressing the start button
popped the bonnet and saw it

called the raa (equivalent of racv) then got the car towed home
now what should i do ?????? i dont have the $$$$ for a new engine and i dont know if i can rebuild the engine at what cost

just out of warranty too having just passed 3yrs and i didnt get extended warranty
what should i do guys ???

dhess: how much was the jap engine ???

Do you have any idea what the problem is? From your description, I can't really tell what happened to your engine.

Assuming you haven't checked anything out, you may want to check the following:

Pull the spark plugs, and see what they look like.

Check the dipstick: Anything unusual?

If you can, do a compression test on the cylinders. This will tell you if you've got big problems.

Take the head cover off and check to see if there are any obvious signs of damage. This includes the valves and timing chain.

From the look of the pictures you posted it looks like a problem with the valve gear - ? bent valve with subsequent damage to rocker gear etc.

Suggest you take the rocker cover off and have a look !!!!

May not be a blown engine as such - just a broken rocker, bent valve etc.

You would probably need to take the head off to fix the problem, and to check that there is no damage to the piston crown.

Does anyone on the forum know of a good Honda dealer or mechanic who can help our friend Fireball ????

Cheers,
slick

Good luck fireball this scares the outta me and its not even my car! Did you notice any changes over the last 100kms? Any unusal noise or hesitations under acceleration? I think that maybe I should do the oil jet bolts even though Im selling it just in case. Not saying this is what happened to yours just dont want to take any chances cos this would really burn me.

Again good luck and I hope that everything comes out relatively good for you.

Horrible to see it. I feel your pain.

Is that the valve stem poking out the side of the cover?

Looks like you've bent a valve (then or previously) and this has resulted in the valve stem snapping and coming up through the head and out the side of the rocker cover.

At the least you'll need valvetrain and head work. At the worst, engine rebuild. I'd be sweet talking Honda9krpm. He must be interested in a rebuilt engine shortly. You could swap.

Sorry to disappoint you guys...my car is intended for daily drive and not drag strip.....so I hope I wont be looking at rebuild, lower compression or more boost EVER.
After seeing fireball valve...does anyone know how I can lower the rev limiter may be to 8.5krpm instead of 9krpm.

fireball's car is as well maitained as any car can be
-bought new from dealer
-broke in properly
-serviced every 5k km up to 50k km
-switched to synthetic about 1-3 months ago
-has never been to the track
-rarely hit revlimiter

If you think your car is safe you better pray again.
dhess please help him!!!!!

Sure. Buy Modifry's Redline Shift Warning Module and use the optional lead to trigger the fuel cut solenoid.

Sounds a bit pointless though. I expect if she's gunna blow she's gunna blow. And if she was in two minds about it an SC would help her make up her mind real quick.
