I talked again to the design engineer that will be manufacturing some CF pieces for me. We had an hour and a half chat about manufacturing processes (he talked, I listened), design enhancements, making quality tools, costs and so forth. This was our second round of discussions and I am at this stage increasingly confident that his company is the one I wish to deal with.

We also touched on offering cost based choices of pure carbon fibre and/or carbon fibre with fibreglass inner, along with Coatings, Autoclaves, Tools, Heat ratings, Strength, Potential for improvements in design of replacement parts and Aluminium parts with optional CF inserts.

I'm confident that we can manufacture high quality Aluminium tools for fabricating the CF pieces. I have a good engineer, a good metal polisher and now it appears a good designer and composites manufacturer.

I am having a third and final meeting tomorrow to have them check out the car and decide on a list of items. We will then most likely start on paper tomorrow with a CF airbox lid replacement as the first project. Determining demand will of course be an essential part of this.

I am hoping to be able to post a VRML model to the board of the proposed part before we start manufacturing the tool for it.

More soon ...

I did mention bonnets and he indicated that they were certainly able to do them. We will however be starting on some parts that involve less up-front outlay by myself. If the products are well accepted then we will move onto larger CF pieces in due course. I'll have more info tonight.

Can you make a flat carbon license plate frame???
It's a simple request. I don't seem to be able to find one.

Like this one....

It should be fairly easy to fabricate.
