I wouldn't pay $100 for a bottle of oil. I'm certainly not advocating cheap oil but as long as it's a reputable brand, fully synthetic and the right viscosity (not getting into the never ending argument about viscosities, suffice to say I don't stray too far from what Honda recommends) then it's all good.

When you drain and refill, some of the old oil remains. Flushing in a sense, ensures all the old oil has been flushed out along with all the impurities.

p.s. I am no mechanic either

All oils I've found that are fully synthetic appear to be about $100 retail. Amsoil I got off some guy though ebay. Ended up being about 100 bux too.

^ might be worth flushing the old oil out while servicing it and start afresh with the thicker oil. I switched brands and didn't flush it, so was still burning oil. Now i am almost up to 5k km, and guesstimate is I haven't top up more than 2l. If it helps, I measure how much oil I top up from my 4l tin so I know how much is being burnt off. I am using 5W40.
What do you mean by flushing exactly? I was running Mobile 1 Fully syn 5w40 previously, and i was still consuming heaps of oil.

I changed the oil filter, drained the oil and refilled with the amsoil 10w30. That what you mean? Or an extra step (Sorry, I'm only 21, not a mechanic, I work with computers! I'm just a clown who is trying to take care of his car! I still have heaps to learn)

Valvoline Syn Power is $60, but if you keep an eye out it's on special every few months at Supercheap Auto for $45 (although if you're not there on the first day of the sale you're likely to be greeted by an empty shelf).

Lol I know what you mean, I get it all the time.

Geelong, yeah they are so crap, they need to ban low performance drivers not high performance cars. Can't really complain with the s though.
