Default OT cpu question.

Guys Im looking at upgrading my dinsaur laptop and I have a very inept knowledge regarding computers and their features.

I found one on a uni site 2nd hand and the guy has told me that bought it in Feb and he'd take $2100 for the lot and I was wondering if you guys thought it was a good deal. Here's the ad:

$2100 doesn't sound that cheap. Compare it to Dell's new pricing and make a decision from there. And make sure you get at least a CD writer. The days of the floppy are seriously numbered.

Thanks guys I thought that it didnt seem very cheap compared to new but then I didnt understand all the extras that it had so I wasn't too sure. I spoke to an IT guy from work a little while ago and he suggested that I buy an ASUS laptop. I think from memory he said that they used to build motherboards and now offer cheap laptops i.e 2.5K that are really competitive and include cd burner, dvd drive etc. Any one heard of these?

Can anyone recommend a good package that I should be after? Again thanks guys I feel like Ive been bludging a lot of info of everyone lately

Never heard of ASUS. The good brands are (in alphabetical order)

Acer, Compaq, Dell, HP, IBM... Maybe a few others Canon, Toshiba?

Best value PC around BAR NONE is an IBM R40 - 1.8G Celeron, 384M RAM and 20GB disk w/ XP Home. Brand new for $1,499.

Upgrade to a 2.4G Pent 4 otherwise same specs for an extra $300.

Check the IBM website.

Austblue, for precisely this reason I think it might be wise to avoid any used ones. You don't know where its been and what viruses might be lurking around. Why is this guy selling it?

These days, new ones are so cheap you really don't need to take the risk with a used one.

I looked at that one you suggested turkey and it seems that you cant upgrade much like I couldnt find where you upgrade to the pentium 4 or how to upgrade to a combo drive? Im really struggling to see what I would need or benefit from like wireless connection for instance? I have no idea what this even is man I feel dumb!
