OT-why do ppl get shoes fixed???
anyway, so im talking to my mate whos an area manager for minit solutions (formerly mister minit b4 they were bought up worldwide by the swiss bank).
i notice the shoes tat they gotta fix and i ask him, "hey, y do ppl get shoes repaired" he says tat maybe its their favourite pair or if its an expensive pair they would rather get it fixed eg rm williams boots.
but i then say "no, y do ppl get crap shoes repaired, like a pair of old runners or kids sandals" he goes i dunno.
but wat made it worse was tat some ppl come in off the street and ask if they got shoes tat ppl havent come back to pick up and if they were willing ot sell them!!!! tf!!!!
this got me wondering as to the rationale of some ppl, if i got a pair of shoes tat needed repair, i just throw the damn things out and get some new ones.
it may be slightly more expensive, but mate, i got myself a new pair of shoes.
just a slight ponderance on my part. it got me scratching my head a bit.
anyway.

I got a pair of Rockport that need resoling at the moment too
Rockport's sole is like SO2....very comfortable and very soft sole.
I like the shoe. The sole wears out quicker than the top and cheaper to replace
BTW Iwould not waste money resoling anyother brand of shoes though.

Dunno about shoes, but I think your keyboard needs an overhaul.
There was a time when you always got shoes repaired. They were horrendously expensive and constant up date was the only way to keep them alive. With the advent of the disposable shoe many cobblers went out of business. And that's the reason they started cutting keys! A lesson in adaptability.
Men's shoes are fairly generic. We can usually find something that is a satisfactory replacement for them in any old shop. But women's shoes are another matter. They can be dainty one offs that can't be replaced. If they cost $500 in Italy and happen to break on the first night out you think she will throw them out?
As for people asking to purchase other unclaimed shoes, look up 'Shoe fetish'.

honda9kpm- but wouldn't a pair of rockport shoes require a set of rockport soles, doesnt the sole add to the overall shoe anyway, its knida like putting a set of retreads on a $2000 rim if my analogy is correct

Yes, this is a good question that goes to the heart of our human behaviour. As Aus points out, in the old days it was the done thing. Shoes were made with the knowledge that they would be repaired several times during their life. Low labour costs meant that it was cheaper to repair than buy new.
Nowadays in our modern disposable society with cheap imports from third world countries it's cheaper to buy a new pair than repair an old pair.
However, when we consider emotional reasons rather than purely logical or economic reasons we begin to understand consumer behaviour.
Firstly, old habits die hard. Older folks may remember that they always got their shoes repaired. Younger folks may remember that their parents used to get their shoes repaired. If you've had a good pair that were very comfortable you grow 'attached' to them and want to keep them. Much like the way we perservere with an old pair of jeans.
Then there is "sticker shock". That is, if you've gone a few years without buying any new shoes the cost of a new pair comes as quite a shock. When you try them on they're stiff and uncomfortable compared to the old pair you just took off and so it is tempting to avoid the new and stick with the old.

Fortunately we're here to bring the little buggers back into line.
I guess the children of the 80's were generation Y (just after Gen-X). I'm pretty well convinced it stands for 'Y-bother'.
