Default question on console

Hi everyone.
I have an AP1 1999 Model S2000.
I want to take of the thin surround around the gear lever boot and headlight washer/hazard switch, as the previous owner has scatched it all with their watch band.
I want to either repaint it or remove paint completely.
Can anyone tell me how to remove it without wrecking it?
Is it just clipped on ir is it glued?
Any help would be much appreciated....
Cheers
Rowan

Clipped and glued. Can be removed if you take out console and trim the plastic welded posts.

you can also use rubbing alcohol, ie medical prep swabs to take the damaged/ scratched part back to a clean under surface, this is the easiest way to tidy it up.

Becareful with rubbing alcohol as it can discolour the surrounding black plastic.

Silly to say but I used a metal polish and it has come up a nice silver and stayed that way for close to 2 years without having to polish it or repeat it.

Acetone! Nail Polish remover from coles, $2.50 I think it was.
I think Acetone is better, as it's known as paint stripper which I think is that thin layer on the center console is.

Here's my DIY on it... haha tried to get some ozhonda rep points:

Hey Buddy,

Here's what I did to my gear surround on the console.

When I bought the car it had some scratches on the gear surround so I took it back with acetone.
The scratches were deeper than I thought.

So I decided to spray it.

What I used :

* 'White Knights, Squirts' Metallic Charcoal and
* 'Clear Gloss'

Both can be found at Bunning's Warehouse.

Here's a Pic. See what you think.
Hope it gives an alternate option.

GOOD LUCK
