S2000 Prices....how far will they fall?
Having watched the fall of S2000 prices over the last year, I was wondering on opinoins to how far people think they will fall? I would suspect that the $ 40K barrier would be breached at 100 000 Kms, or do you think that could happen sooner?

Way way sooner - the $40k barrier should be breached at about 70K -
There are deals to be had - 30Kkm is now about $48Kish -
Its all a matter however of finding the right car for you which has been looked after and been broken in properly

Are you saying that our car can be purchased sub $40K with 70k on it? I doubt this looking at the prices being asked. Of course thats not the best way to measure the price but it gives a good idea. BTW this would make the market value of my car out by about $20K on my car.

Have a look at redbook.com.au - I don't think the years go out far enough to show 70Kkm+ - I could be wrong - but you will find that on the bottom end of the scale, the prices are far lower than what we would generally expect -
I think that redbook takes into account the current average selling values in making their assessment -
Perhaps 70Kkm may have been an overstatement - but I think that 80Kkm+ would not be too hard to believe given the current glut on the market -
But I can't stress enough that it really depends on whether the right car is at the right price - I know that I wouldnt be buying a high milege car simply b/c I think it will be very hard to sell above 100Kkm at a satisfactory price b/c by then I would be trying to sell to the integra/wrx crowd in terms of pricing - in which case $30-40k would be high to them -

I think the S is a collectible item. The S tends to fall into "well off " owners.
Most of us that like to keep the car are car enthusiasts.
Most of the people who sell the car are either
1. sick of the car (physically or mentally )
2. in some sort of financial turmoil
3. end of least option
Those sellers often need the $$$ very quickly and probably has driven the price
Also with the recent bad, unjusted rating on the S. I am not surprised that the price has fallen so rapidly. Who care anyway, it's just a case of supply and demand and I will keep this car for collection anyway
If you think about it
A new ITR is around $40k even a used on would be around $30k, I would not think 2x about getting a used S for this price

While there is obviously a correlation between distance and age or model year it seems to me that it is the year that is the major factor in the pricing. All of the sub-$50K cars I have seen are 99 models. On the other hand an 01, even with less than 10,000km on the odometer, will already have dropped to less than $60K privately.
My guess is that we will see the first sub $40K car before the end of this year. It will be a 99 model and it will not necessarily have over 100,000 kms on it either.

Hey, I just got offered $35,000 for mine.
90,000km
Full Log book service every 5000km
Very mild mods
Paintwork and Interior in Immaculate condition (You have to look real hard just to find a couple stone chips)
Mechanically perfect.
I turned it down. I reckon I can get at least $42,000 for it.
