Default Saturday skidpan

Hi guys,
I've jus' had another fun day in my s2000, went to the skidpan at Eastern Creek, it was tons of fun..dispite s2000 being a FR car, it's still a bit hard to get it sideways, i found it understeers most of the time, lack of low-mid range, and it tries hard to counter steer. but in time attack, i got better times than some done up S15 silvias, but they are the kinda car u should get if ya into drifting..
now i cant wait to get on the track...
i wanted to post up some pics and vid, but dont know how, can anyone tell me?
cheers
Tommy

You are kidding of course? FR is the only way to do skid pan work and the S is ideal for it.

The S is supposed to be very tail happy. Built for oversteer and not understeer like most other "normal" FR cars (like s15's).

It's strange that yours was very understeery. I found that I can make the back come out pretty easily if at the right revs and with enough steering. Can't really ease it into a slide though. Well I can't anyway. I have to unsettle the car first and then flick it (which I guess is dangerous). But yeah, I thought the S was built with a bit of oversteer in mind. That's what I've read in other parts of this forum anyway.

wil..

Your experiences are the same as my own 0288 - on the skidpan at DECA I got massive understeer, especially when they wet the pan.

The other S2000s that were there on the same day (around 25) all had similar experiences.

yeh, the pan's wet, i tried to do a 180 dgree witchat turn, in second gear, doing about 50kmh, and the S jus' understeers, and wen i'm half way out, reved it hard, the tail jus' does a 180 spin, very hard to keep it sliding

I've only had the SC for a few months but had the car for 3 and a half years before that. After I'd had it for a while I did the HART driving course which included skid pan practice. From memory I could induce nice controllable oversteer with a flick of the wrist and controlled throttle but I'll admit it is a car whose handling balances on a pin prick and losing it was a regular occurence. I certainly won't be drifting it on mountain passes.

The one thing I've never really experienced to any degree with the S is understeer.

From my experience (I've been to DECA 3 times), the only way I could get it to understeer is by coming into corners too hot ... or by gettinng on the power too ealy (ie. before the car hooks up into the corner.

Though, I've been in a car with 2kturkey and experienced plenty of understeer ... that was at Calder and it was perfeclty dry. I think it has all to do with your driving style.

The one thing I've never really experienced to any degree with the S is understeer.

Same with me .... only when I enter a turn with too much speed do I get understeer. Out of corners on the tracl I can never get understeer.
