T1R half shaft spacer bolt issues

Walking up my back lane today I noticed two nuts lying on the ground. I jacked up the car and sure enough, of the 12 nuts and bolts holding my half shafts to my diff the majority of them were loose if not missing.

I remember someone mentioning this before:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/743...shaft-spacers/

Now apparently the fasteners are fairly high quality Grade 12.9 bolts and nice skirted and serated nuts. They didn't however come with washers and the bolts hex head is fairly small.

I'll investigate replacing the bolts and adding washers (perhaps Nordlock) and loctite and see where it takes me.

I'm just glad this didn't leave me stranded somewhere.

Usual t1r quality.

You could also fit jet nuts. Metric ones are pretty hard to get your hands on though.

Gotta use something I can pick up tomorrow. Don't have a ute to fall back on anymore.

try to get high tensile nuts. Most of the nylocs are a mild grade of steel. The nuts you had were high strength versions. Wurth sell them.

The solution:

Bigger head bolts (12.9 Grade), compatible metric high tensile nuts with skirts and serations, and Nordlock washers. Will also Loctite threads.

I had the same issue, the bolts supplied with the T1R spacers are 9mm which leaves a gap in the hole and due to vibration the bolts come undone, 10mm bolts are needed.

I remember driving home hearing somthing hitting under the car, once I got home I checked under the car and I had 1 bolt left semi tightened on the right hand side driveshaft.. the left side had completly unbolted itself with the drive shaft spacer still there lucky!

Not sure about the originals but the replacements are M10s. Metric 10mm shank. I expect the originals were some oldey worldey imperial spec 3/8th cubit or something. Friggin yanks should come into the 20th century (at least).

Where did you get the high tensile nuts from? Bomond trading?

Who last worked on your halfshafts/differential. Perhaps they didn't have enough vegemite for breakfast.

Coventry Fasteners. I know they stock Nord-Locks so I went there first.

As to who last worked on my halfshafts/diff, the problem is more likely too much vegemite!
