Default Track time!

Hey all!

Ive decided that its time i start taking my S2K to teh track.
Im very happy with the overall performance and handling of the car, and am relatively new to track days etc. so im definately no pro!

What are the general mods that i could make to the car to make it that little bit more suited to track days before I head out?
Im not looking to spend a fortune on the car, I just want to know what the general "must do" mods are for the S2K...

Engine, Suspension, Tyres etc....

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Get everything under the car throughly checked out by someone you trust & get a wheel alignment.

You don't want a brake caliper falling off or a control arm letting go at 160 do you (Extreme examples but you get my point)?

Hi MDPS2K, welcome to the world of S2K & tracking

You didn't mention where you are from or which tracks you might be going to. Are you in USA or Australia?

When you say "track" do you mean circuit or drag?

Not much, I'd limit it to Alignement and tyre pressures. If you're really getting serious then replace the brake-pads and fluid. There's no need to do anything else as the car will be a lot quicker than your abilities (and that's even when you get good at it).

ps. And of course make sure your car's been serviced and has the oil topped up.

Thanks guys!

Im from sydney, and ill be taking the car to both Eastern Creek and Wakefield.

So sway bars, springs, cold air intake, extractors etc etc arent necessary to free the car up a little and have it stick to the road a little more???

Ive taken the car for a spin with the airbox opened up and i LOOOVE the noise it makes! But id imagine that the hot air it would be able to suck in wouldn't do much for performance....
Are there and air filter kits that provide similar noise and an increase in performance?? Albeit minimal.

Like DavidM said, the car is faster than you are to begin with. Even if you are a natural at the track you have to be a regular before you outgrow the car's stock configuration.

Check out the "Track Hall of Fame" thread (it is a stickie at the top of the forum" to get an idea of what sort of times you should be getting before you need to mod the car.

As an example: I shaved 2.2 seconds of my lap time at ECreek by taking a better line on turns 1 and 11. Anyone here will tell you that 2.2 seconds will cost you a few hundred $$ if you try to do it by just modding the car.
