G'day all,
Some of you may know - I just moved back from Canberra to Melbourne, after a 2.5 years (incidentally, it's great to be back home)!
Anyway, I just renewed my VIC driver's licence (I was a naughty boy & never changed it to ACT, even though you are supposed to after 3mths!) and did a check of my 'dermerit points'. Expecting the worst....I was more than pleasently surprised to find out that according to VicRoads, my last offence was 23rd January, 2000 & I have only incurred 1 point against my name (in the past 3 years)!! There is NO mention of my 'incidents' in July 2000 (ACT), January 2001 (NSW) & October 2001 (NSW).
What is the the possibility, that these have 'slipped' through the system and won't turn up on my record....given the 1st offence = 2yrs old, the 2nd = 1.5yrs old & the 3rd = 10mths old (all have been paid/processed)??
Keep your fingers crossed for me....

This is a good question!
Do demerit points travel interstate? That is, do the various state governments have a scheme for exchanging information about offences earning demerit points?
Or is it possible that when police book an interstate motorist they just record the registration number but not the drivers licence number?
I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that they only care about collecting the revenue without having to do all that messy administrative work.
Has anyone here ever collected demerit points from another state?

Dan,
Ticket showed both registration number and my driver's license number - refer to below:
In terms of providing my driver's license number when paying the fine, I paid it over the web and from memory it didn't require me to enter my d/l number...

A few years ago a sales rep that I know was going for a holiday in Queensland. He was on 11 demerit points at the time.
The cops pinged him up there and 3 months later he was walking. So they certainly didn't forget about his points.
I'd let sleeping dogs lie and not kick up any fuss over it. Is there a statute of limitations thingy on such things?
