Where do you buy mods in Australia?
Hey all.
For starters, I can find everything I want for my S2K overseas, but shipping and import costs do get expensive.
I live in Geelong, Victoria. I was wondering if there's anywhere (perhaps in Melbourne) that sells things for the s2000? Or anywhere that can get the JDM stuff brought in and then sell it for a good price?
For example, the next 2 big things on my mod list are exhaust and then bride seats. The last catback exhaust I looked at costed $600 for shipping, I'm not sure about seats.
So yeah, it would be helpful if there was some where in Australia/Melbourne where I could get this stuff from.
Thanks

Buying from overseas will almost always yield cheaper prices even once you pay the shipping and import duties.
It is unlikely that an Australian retailer will have the part you want in stock which means they order it from overseas anyway, pay shipping and duties and then add in a margin.

The 2 things you want are probably the most expensive items to ship, with bodywork being another. Even second hand these items are a pain to package properly. I sent some seats to a guy via air, the packing of 2 seats took me at best 3 hours as it needed to fit within a certain size, what a pain.
Buy that stuff here, or with the exhuast, if you are really resourceful, find the canisters you want, buy just them from overseas and get a shop to make up the rest of the system. You can also try your luck with sites like nengun which seem to be pretty good on shipping, or fortyoneauto who is in NZ and is a sponsor here.

Def cheaper to buy from overseas, for aftermarket and even for genuine honda parts. Honda North for eg wanted to charge my mechanic (trade price) $660.00 + gst, for a inner Cv joint and boot kit.
I bought through hardtopguy and he charged "The parts are 293.53 (inner CV joint and boot kit) + 90.00 shipping (Express mail 3-5 days) for a total of 383.53"
So even with $90 shipping in this case come out way ahead.
I could give you many other examples from parts I have bought but they are all the same. Australia = a terible place to buy parts for your S just buy from overseas (even from the UK is cheaper). You will also probbly get them faster this way as most aussie stores (even honda) dont carry many parts for us and have to order from japan, where as they have shelf stock in the US.

Yeah you're right.
Only just today, a set of Buddy Club N+ coilovers I bought on ebay arrived. They cost me $1200 with shipping, if I had have bought them in Australia, they would have cost 1700+.
I also ordered a set of Enkei PF01's to have shipped to Australia, 1590 shipped. The Australian distributor wanted $550 a wheel.
So yes, I'm starting to see that buying from overseas is always going to work out cheaper, and in most cases, be faster.

Buying anything from Oz is shit, and I'm a retailer manager of nearly 10yrs now. Always buy direct from overseas. Quicker, cheaper, more options / better range, the list is endless.
