2009 Rollouts

rrari have become the first team to unveil their 2009 car, ahead of the first run of their F60 at Mugello in Italy on Monday. The car has been named as a way of celebrating the fact that Ferrari are the only team to have competed in each of the 60 years of the Formula One world championship. Due to the radical change in F1 regulations this year, the look of the new car is dominated by the wide front wing and narrow rear wing - with the central part of the F60 featuring a highly-sculpted 'coke bottle' rear-end from behind the sidepods. The new car features Ferrari's Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), which has been developed in conjunction with electronics supplier Magneti Marelli. It is mounted on the engine - although the team has not yet confirmed whether the device will be used for the first race. "As you can see the car is not an evolution of last year's car," said technical director Aldo Costa. "It's a completely new car, starting from a white piece of paper. Fundamentally the biggest changes come from the new rules from an aerodynamic point of view and the introduction of new technology, which is the KERS system. "Because of that we had to start work pretty early and to review the main concept of the car, so it was a very very intense and long job." The F60 features longditudinally-mounted carbon fibre-cased gearbox and has a new Brembo designed braking system. Felipe Massa is scheduled to test the car for the first time later today at Mugello, with initial shakedowns having been switched from Fiorano because of freezing temperatures at Ferrari's test track. |

as of noon England time, every F1 team began making models of the ferrari front wing support, and testing it in their wind tunnels. :hello: |
It's great to see slicks, but that rear wing remains troubling to me...

The wings are going to take a little time to get used to, but the rest of the car is absolutely beautiful. It's nice to see clean lines on an F1 car again.
|
This new look will take a bit of getting used to, especially the very narrow rear wing.
|
for some reason, the Ferrari doesn't look as dopey as the BMW. probably the red vs white color.
i still think too that the littlest bump and these front wings are going to break off. |
can't believe the car still has those ugly wheel covers, and there isn't a single aero piece that diverts air from infront of the rear wheel.
how is that rear wing suppose to punch a bigger hole in the air for a trailing car? 90 of the car is the area under the rear wing. i think the car would look 10x better w/o any rear wing than that lump. |
ahh man i completely forgot today was the unveiling of ferrari's car.

I like this more back to basics with slicks all the aero was getting a bit daft looking
|
Yeah, the rear wing will take some time to get use to, but I like the rest.
|
u know F1 is ****ed when Felipe Massa says the new car looks "cute"
check autosport's mini videos on the side for the interview. |

if the rear wing was wider even at the 09spec height, it would look better.
|
As usual, McLaren International has produced a beautiful car, despite the ugly 09 F1 wing regs.
Sorry the pics below are so big, but it sure is the best way to see the intricate details. Check out the competely faired-in exhaust!! http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/gallery.php?catID=3792 http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_gal...?fes_gal_id=952 http://www.f1technical.net/news/11416 http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/wp-conten...009f1car-9.jpg http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/wp-conten...009f1car-8.jpg |
Can I say I am actually beginning to like the cars? :hello: I mean I really really hated the look of it at first but I think the nose of the Toyota is absolutely beautiful!

[QUOTE]Renault launch R29 in Portugal
http://www.manipef1images.com/large/lr2904.jpg Renault launched their 2009 challenger, the R29, this morning in Portugal, becoming the fourth team to put their challenger on display. As depicted in images leaked on the Internet yesterday by eagle-eyed photographers, the R29 features minor revisions to its livery compared to the previous two years, with the team now sporting significant 'Total' branding, parent company of Elf who is the fuel and lubricant supplier of Renault. The new design features red front and rear wing endplates, thanks to Total's arrival on the car, while the main body of car features more orange and yellow, the colours of title sponsor ING, who stays with the team for a third year. Aesthetically speaking, the R29 features a very distinctive front nose, much larger, squarer and bulkier than its rivals. The R29 also features the anvil wing, as used by the team in 2008, with Toyota the only other team to date to have run it on their 2009 car. Nelson Piquet jr. got the honour of driving the R29 on its first laps this morning, with it due to complete more mileage as the test here in Portim |

I'm lovin lookin at the slicks, and as long as I'm not seeing it straight on so I can see how narrow the rear wing it, it's all good. |
The nose on the Renault is just plain weird. Looks like a shark. I'm really loving the Mclaren. That car is by far the best looking so far. The Williams is surprisingly good too.
I'm liking the new look of the cars in general. Way more organic and love the swoopy lines unencumbered by all those annoying winglets. |
it's been interesting looking at the new cars. i think it's easier tell all the little differences between them.
|
Its funny to me that Renault are the only ones that kept the shark fin after last season when all the rest of of them seem to have ditched them. I'm interested to see how the cars vary between now and Australia!!! Hope Renault is able to close the gap, not lose ground.

by far the ugliest car so far. looks like those cheap f1 toy cars made for 5 year olds and the paint scheme makes it look like a clown car. i miss the 2006 paint scheme |

lol nice one birel. yaa the blue and yellow scheme was really nice.
|
by far the mclaren is the best looking so far.. and if you dont look at them straight from the front they look great..
on a side note.. first lap first corner is going to be a disaster with cf parts going everywhere and tons of punctures. It will put a huge emphasis on qualifying near the front! |

New Ferrari F60 'illegal' - report Ferrari's newly launched 2009 single seater, the F60, has been declared "illegal" by a specialist German motoring publication. Auto Motor und Sport said the car, revealed last week at the Mugello circuit in Italy, features rear exhaust outlets that contravene the sweeping new technical regulations. The magazine said some of the Italian team's rivals have noted that because of the new rules cracking down on bodywork appendages like aerodynamic winglets, exposing the exhausts in the way the F60 is designed is not allowed. A glance at the other new cars revealed so far - the Renault, Williams, McLaren and Toyota - shows that their exhausts have all been mounted in-board. Auto Motor und Sport said it should not be too much of a problem for Ferrari to redesign the exhaust housing, but it may help to explain the team's retreat from the Portimao group test this week to Mugello. Officially, Ferrari decamped to Mugello because of adverse weather forecasts for this week, but the magazine said the F60 also showed a significant problem with its front wing when tested last week. It is suggested that, in light of these challenges, Ferrari concluded that it should be conducting the car's first major test as close as possible to its Maranello base. |

The rear wing does seem tiny but I don't mind it so much. But the font wings are huge! It almost looks disproportionate to the rest of the car. I foresee a lot of racing incidents due to the wider front.
|
:hello:
This is gonna' be a long season. |
mclaren is currently testing with the 2008 spec rear wing for more downforce due to the rain... being cautious not to wreck the car in testing. Car looks 10x better with the '08 wing.
